> Chicken & waffles, to me, is waffles (just the waffles, none of the extra stuff) smothered in chicken and gravy. No syrup, no butter (other than what might have gone into the gravy), just chicken, gravy, and lovely pastry.

Interesting. I can see how that might be good, but yes, that’s a very different beast than how they’re served at Roscoe’s. I don’t know about the other former chicken/waffle chain that was mentioned in this thread.

At Roscoe’s, it’s the syrup, the butter, the biscuits, grits, eggs…all kinds of breakfast food. And as I mentioned earlier, my personal favorite happens to be a chicken omelette.

However, Roscoe’s does serve a bevy of soul food dishses that are far more suited to lunch and dinner fair (greens, red beans & rice, mac’n’cheese, etc.) so I imagine you _could_ ask for a dish that comes much closer to what you’re used to. I’ve just never seen it eaten that way there.

Chicken and waffles sounds as natural a combination to me as burgers and pancakes.

:dubious:

when i asked about it , i was told it was a southern “thing.” aahhh, that 'splains it.
