Wait, your dad didn’t remember your gender in the heat of the moment?

Lol. That awkward moment when you realize you’ve outed yourself as having grown up kinda poor.

Really, all you have to say is the “before I was born” part. We’ll then assume that you have no memories of it. 😉

In my small home town my father had a reputation as a fighter. His reputation kept him out of fights for the most part. I saw him do some damage to a guy who called him a liar----I was eighteen at the time.

Once I was in the car with my dad when a guy came out of nowhere and we ever-so-slightly hit him. We came out, he was on the florr “writhing in pain”. He had bloodied bandages that were dirty and the blood was dry, so it was obviously a scammer.

My dad told him “let’s go to the clinic”. Guy gets in the car. A couple of block from there, my dad tell him "can you open the door and check the tyre, I think it’s low. He does it and when the guy leans out my dad, not the most athletic man around ieven in his prime, shoves him out of the car with a kick.

More like general ignorance in the cold of existence. But that would be a completely different topic, so I’ll not sidetrack this one.

\*\*
Johanna\*\*'s transgender. Now how her dad was supposed to know that when she was **ten** , I don’t know.

My dad was a big guy but more likely to get someone laughing than to get into a physical fight. As far as I know he never had a fight since he left the Marine Corps in 1946.

My Dad was both a very cerebral man and a macho, old-school Irish Catholic disciplinarian. He was an English teacher in a rough neighborhood.

I never saw him in any kind of a fight, but he always kept a pool cue stick in his car. For years, I had no idea why. Only gradually did it dawn on me that he was driving each day into a neighborood where he might need to bludgeon someone with it.

I wasn’t implying that he was supposed to know, just noting that it generally wasn’t known.

Dad came close once. When I was a teenager I came home frightened by some guy tailing me in his truck and I woke Dad out of a dead sleep. He charged out the back door to where the guy had jumped the fence intot he backyard. The guy took off running, then Mom hopped in the car to give chase. Couldn’t catch him but he would’ve been in a worse world of hurt if Mom had got a hold of him.

he’s still out there… potential rapist peeping-tom abductor scumbag.

At first glance, I read this as _“spent two hours in the Marines,”_ fully expecting you to follow up with _“before breaking the drill instructor’s arm.”_
