Children acting in R-rated movies

Right you are. I only answered part of the question. Sorry.

I recall now that some of young Jodie Foster’s more suggestive scenes actually used her older sister as a double.

For Taxi Driver, Jodie Foster was told that the shootout at the end was all faked and was explained to how it was done. She was apparently very intrigued by the whole process. (For some reason, I’m reminded of an anecdote regarding Monty Python and the Holy Grail. John Cleese’s daughter was on set during the filming of the Black Knight scene, and apparently wasn’t disturbed by the sight of her father losing his limbs, only commenting “Daddy doesn’t like that man, does he?”)

That’s it! Totally mis-remembered. Thanks.

Where she unbuttons her blouse, too, (and also unzips Harvey Keitel’s jeans?) On the special features of our DVD, she and I believe here mother (or sister?) go into all of that.

Side Note: Scorsese has TWO (2) cameos in that film. He sits outside of the campaign headquarters in one shot. Then he’s the guy in the back of the taxi spying on his wife going with another man, giving a long diatribe. Someone else was supposed to do that latter scene but couldn’t for some reason, so Scorsese had to step in.

Holy shit! Go to the IMDB site and check out the movie and you can see a poster with nudity.

I thought when the more recent Lolita came out, they talked about laws that prevent even an of-age actor portraying an underage character in a sexual situation.

Ah, here:

But after six weeks at the editing table, flanked by a lawyer hired to scrutinize every scene, no Hollywood studio would back Lyne’s film. The reason: a new child pornography law that made it illegal to produce material that “appears to be” or “conveys the impression” it is child pornography.

In 1996, one year before the remake, Congress passed the Child Pornography Prevention Act (CPPA), extending the definition of child pornography to include material advertised as child pornography and “morphed” or computer-generated images.

Despite Lyne’s use of a body double, the plot advertised an underage character engaging in sexually explicit activity. The fact that the underage actress appeared to participate in the activity had become as illegal as if she actually had.

In The Opposite of Sex (1998), a very good film, Christina Ricci, who was not quite 18 and who probably would have laughed in the face of anyone who thought she needed protecting, tries to seduce her gay half-brother’s boyfriend. At one point, she drops her bikini top. You don’t see her breasts, but even so, a fellow American here at the time (I saw it on video; it never played in Thailand) said he didn’t know how they could do that, because there was an FCC regulation against showing minors acting lewdly. I pointed out that any FCC regulation would cover what was broadcast over the airwaves, not what was shown in a cinema.

I read an article about this subject, and from what I recall, William Freidken (the director) put all of the actresses who auditioned for Regan through a very strict vetting process. Blair got the job after an exchange that went something like this… (no cite available, just memories of an article I read many years ago)

FREIDKIN: Some of the scenes in the movie are going to deal with uncomfortable subjects.

BLAIR: What do you mean?

FREIDKIN: Well, there’s one that deals with masturbation. Are you familiar with masturbation?

BLAIR: You mean like, jerking off?

FREIDKIN: You get the job!

The SCOTUS overturned that law. I don’t know the exact case, but I remember reading about how scenes in Traffic and Lolita were no longer in danger of censorship because of the ruling.

IIRC there was also issues with the movie Traffic invoving Ericka Christiansen who was apparently 17 when the film was shot that invoved sex scenes with her.

Just tossing in two examples, FWIW:

In The Door in the Floor, little Elle Fanning was barely five when the filming started. There is a scene where she walks in on Kim Basinger and Jon Foster having sex, and she screams. Her mom tells her to calm down. This was obviously edited and the scenes shot on different days or at different days, with the adults speaking to a child who wasn’t actually there, and vice versa.

There’s a scene in Birth in which Nicole Kidman climbs into a bathtub and is joined by Cameron Bright, who was then about ten years old. He is playing the reincarnation of her dead husband and thinks he is joining his wife. Kidman explained the filming; I don’t recall the exact words, but there was also some obvious editing there and the two actors would absolutely not have been in the tub together.

Is it possible that you’re thinking of Bastard Out of Carolina? Jena Malone was only 12 when it was released and there were some very harrowing scenes between her and the adult Ron Eldard.

Yeah. I just recently saw The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane again and those were some incredibly adult situations she found herself in at 14. Also, I was equally surprised to see a rear nudity shot (and partially exposed breasts) until I found out it was her sister, just like you say.

Both are wonderful movies that I highly recommend though.

You’re probably thinking of Bastard Out of Carolina, a TV-movie which featured a 10-11 year old girl being abused, molested, and ultimately raped by her stepfather. Good film, although terribly sad and depressing. Directed by Angelica Huston, starred Jennifer Jason Leigh (as the mom not the girl), narrated by Laura Dern.

Hey Ants, what am I, invisible? :stuck_out_tongue:

I recently started watching Californication, and Hank’s daughter cusses. Every time she cusses, she has to give him money, and then he cusses in front of her and has to give the money back.

Also, in Californication, Mia (played by Madeline Zima) is 16 (the actress is 20 or 21 at the time) and is shown topless, having sex with Hank, and a variety of compromising situations.

In Weeds, several of the kids cuss during the show, and adults cuss around the kids all the time.

He probably lets his index finger field any questions about it.

“Danny’s not here anymore, Mrs. Torrance!”

How about the movieKids. Very first scene lacks nudity, but is a HIV-positive 15 year old deflowering a pretty convincing 13 year old girl. Disturbing. Doesn’t help that the movie is a festerting pile of shit either.
