The screen shot is buried in the comments section of this Jezebel article. If you click on the link and see how this couple groomed and presented themselves in their oh-so-sad vlog about rehoming their child, you will hate them all the more.
And in these days of Covid, they have to leave the kid outside the orphanage in a carrier.
You would hope so, wouldn’t you. But a friend of mine adopted a daughter from India (he knew and expected up front that he’d probably end up with a child with difficult needs), and a few years after the adoption, the orphanage came to the attention of local law enforcement, who eventually found literal skeletons in the back yard. Which, really, goes a long way towards explaining the issues the daughter has.
Yeah, this is what is so nauseating about all this, it’s seems that they have been making their parenting of a young family into a scripted reality TV show. It all just looks staged, as though they have scriptwriters, makeup & costume designers, a director… And it reads as though they adopted a special needs kid from China because that will get them more Youtube views.
They call them Christian Mommy Martyrs. Oh look at the poor woman! What a saint she is! But they’re monetized up the wazoo. Apparently, neither of them have a job. Plus, she has 10s of thousands of dollars of credit card debt. And she wrapped Huxley’s thumb completely with duck tape even to covering part of the palm, because he sucked his thumb. The older bio kid sucked her thumb and was several years older. No duck tape for her! There was a screen cap in the Jezebel article linked above.
And some of the shadiest of the shady re-homers actually gave kids to pedophiles*. Sick sick sick.
*Not knowingly, but they didn’t vet them sufficiently to weed out the bad ones.

On one hand I am very happy for the girl that she found a loving and caring home, and on the other hand this kind of behavior of rich foreigners wanting to adopt babies drives the child trafficking market in India. India is also a place where adoptions by Indians are very few as a legacy of the caste system. Something that needs addressing in India. The American openness to adoptions is something I personally admire.
Unless you count Texas state office buildings.
Rich foreigners aren’t the only ones wanting to adopt babies from overseas, even though it makes a good sound bite. None of the people I know with foreign babies were wealthy (especially after they finished paying for the adoption). And you certainly can’t blame them for the rise in child trafficking in India; that’s on India. That’s like blaming child slave labor harvesting cocoa beans on rich Americans who like chocolate.
Fully agree it’s on India and not on Americans. An orphan child getting adopted to any family anywhere is a sure sign of humanity’s accomplishments.
The face of adoption has changed in the US with more Asian children and less black children being adopted :

With a tripling “demand “ came bad guys in India following criminal practices. In early 2000 India signed on to The Hague convention and the adoption situation has been improving in India with more Indians adopting and especially adopting girls.

I’m glad she lost some sponsorships. I hope the authorities get involved and actually check to make sure Huxley was in fact rehomed with someone caring and decent, and that he isn’t dead and buried in the backyard, or chained up in the basement. Or that he wasn’t sold to pedophiles. That reuters article showed that the majority of kids who are rehomed, are given to pedos. Or at least all the kids discussed in the article were.
Well, it’s certainly on India to stop it. But just as with fair-trade chocolate, there’s a case to be made that the people driving the demand have a responsibility to avoid providing incentives for abusive practices.
There is generally more demand in affluent western societies for young, healthy, “adoptable” orphans than there are young, healthy, genuinely orphaned and unwanted children to supply it. So people trying to adopt internationally should watch out for unwittingly offering people financial incentives for the mistreatment of children. “Rescuing” a child from a shitty abusive orphanage in an impoverished region via adoption is not as helpful as enabling the child to stay in his/her own loving home and not get farmed out to a shitty abusive orphanage in the first place.
I don’t know anything about this Youtuber, so I can’t vet how accurate it is, but supposedly this Youtuber spoke to someone who knows what happened to Huxley. They said he is with a 2-mom family in Ohio, one of the moms actually is a nurse, but they both work and one of them is pregnant. It’s not known how well this placement will go, but if the info is true at least he wasn’t sold to pedos, and wasn’t accidentally murdered.
