HOLY GUACAMOLE!!!
Wow, that was a memory that hit me like a tons of bricks.
I too was born in 1965. I learned my ABCs, numbers and manners from Sesame Street…
sniff sniff this thread is makin me all nostalgic
I still think of Muppets when I hear “For What its Worth” and who can forget “WendY” by The Association with the Muppet witch flying around…
Doesn’t anyone remember … I think it was the “Beetlebugs” performing “Letter B”?
I still sing that sometimes when that song by the other Beatles comes on.
Also canadian version Sesame Street/ Rue Sesame in the 80’s (babysitting for the summers and spring breaks) had “Where’s the letter L wheres the letter L?” in a lovely Trooper parody. Which I also sing along to…
I was lucky, lived in a border town, and got CBC Canadian Sesame Street and the PBS American version. PBS was definitely “Funkier” but Rue Seasame St was more familiar and home grown.
I’m so glad this thread got bumped! I watched it with my daughter, faithfully. You guys have brought back so many memories!
I still remember with great wistfulness the lovely little song:
Lower case n
Standing on a hill
The wind is very still
For the lower case n…
And, has been mentioned before, the MonsterPiece Theater theme, which I still sing, to the great annoyance of my (now-grown) children. No better version of the alphabet song has ever been written!
Such lovely memories! I have to admit that after Snuffie became visible, though, the show went downhill rapidly. And today it’s not even worth watching. It’s completely lost its charm!
Does anyone remember seeing a sketch (and I’m not sure if this was in the actual show, or a Sesame Street special) around the time of Iran-Contra, where McNeil of the McNeil-Lehrer News Hour was interviewing Cookie Monster (as Ollie North), advised by Ernie (as North’s counsel Brendan Sullivan)?
McNeil: Did you, Cookie Monster, take the cookies?
(Ernie whispers into CM’s ear)
Cookie Monster: No. Me no take cookies.
