Children's books about boy genius

I’m with Jess–love those One-of-a-kind family books!! Wonderful!

Not only that, but BB just put out a sequel again after many years. I haven’t read it, but the first two just lit me up as a kid.

I just knew there was a reason I read this board!

I remember reading many of these books – the Danny Dunn books, the Mad Scientist’s Club – but could not remember the titles or authors. I have children nearing the reading age for them, and just last week was sitting around trying to remember “…what were those books with the kid with the two friends, a girl and a boy, and some professor, set in the 1950s or early '60s, where they were always getting into trouble with some weird invention?”, or, “…about that club of kids that was always inventing stuff, like some kind of submarine with a Loch Ness Monster type of getup on top”?

I remember reading a lot of Encyclopedia Brown books too, though in retrospect they were kind of contrived/hokey… I still remember one “solution” which involved deducing shenanigans because somebody was eating hot dogs with the mustard added on top of the sauerkraut (nobody does that, the mustard always goes first, so the key clue was hidden under the mustard and on top of the sauerkraut). Even as a kid I was like, you’ve got to be kidding me.

 Speaking as a librarian, I can assure you, you’ll be welcome! (If you don’t act weird or anything . . . ) The children’s librarian will just assume you’re looking for something for your kid. And if the truth comes out – that’s not too embarrassing, is it?
