[Revenge of the chickens!](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1090803/Revenge-Chinese-chickens-Farmers-throw-trussed-eagles-poultry-pens-hunting.html) It’s not just a new sport, but they’re doing this to teach the chickens “self-defense” and scare the eagles into not harming the chickens. Back in the 70s and 80s, _David Beatty’s_ was Kansas City’s leading high-end stereo shop. I started working for a guy who had previously worked for Beatty who told me how he got started. Kansas City was having a huge problem with pigeons crapping on the ASB Bridge across the Missouri River. Beatty captured some pigeons and tortured them, recording the sounds of a pigeon in pain. He then set speakers up on the bridge, playing the tape. The pigeons left, and didn’t come back for a long time. ---

Better aversion “training” than the wholesale slaughter of predators the US ranching industry has practiced. Wolves and coyotes need to eat too ya know. Although I expect the actual effects are mostly anecdotal. You’d have to catch & train a pretty big percentage of the local eagle population before predation would drop much. If, say, half the local eagles were now chicken-averse, that’d just reduce the competition the non-averse eagles face when snagging chickens. ---
