This is terrible. Almost all the responses here are riffing on the OP’s mispelling of monk. Give him a break for Christ’s sake. He’s not a native speaker. ---

It’s pretty mild fun-poking, so I’m not sure why you’ve got your knickers in a twist. ---

Yet most of what I see is idiots making stupid attempts at humour. Co-worker comes to work after 3 days off. She sends an email -says “her mother pissed away”. Immediately sends out correction ‘passed away’. Does everybody makes jokes about her all day cause she said ‘pissed away’ instead of ‘passed away’ ? Maybe only the same jerks with the lame attempts at humour here. ---

Reminds me, my ex-best friend was Chinese-American, and once we got to talking about the Chinese takeover of Tibet, and she insisted that the monks were really oppressive of the Tibetans and China was the great liberator of the cruel Dalai Lama. ---

Urgh, the BBC news website had that some footage of Tibetans being shot, but not being able to access that I wasn’t sure what was happening. But seeing footage of the Chinese Army mowing down civilians and paramedics near Tianamen square, it hardly surprises me. ---

You do know, the Chinese originally claimed the fleeing Tibetan refugees were shot by the Chinese army (and I kid you not) _“in self-defence”_. I mean, why do they even bother? Still, to be fair recent evidence has shown people will believe pretty much anything, if said with sufficient gravitas by the apparatus of state. ---

**Spectre** , I can’t say I’m surprised that most of the responses were attempts at humor. Unfortunately, this violence isn’t anything new. The Chinese have been oppressing the Tibetans for about 50 years now. To make it worse, there isn’t anything you or I can do about it. So what’s left? Make jokes. I’m not saying it’s in good taste, just that it’s understandable. Hell, even you or I haven’t contributed anything meaningful to the conversation as regards the Tibetans here.
