What do you guys think about this.

When I was in University I used to go out to bars / pubs / clubs for drinks and music fairly frequently. It helped that I was a university student fascinated with alcohol and music. It was a great place to see / perhaps meet people.

Now I’m in the workforce, and I find it difficult to meet new people. I don’t really have any desire to go out to any of those places now unless it’s with people I’m fairly comfortable with…the music is too loud for my tastes now too (yeesh I am getting old)

Anyways tonight a not so close friend invited me to the bar for exactly the above. Another friend called as well. I’m more interested in hanging out with one person I know then going to the bar…even though I might meet new people at the bar. I’ve never had great success at the bar scene…so I guess I’m just letting it go.

I do want to meet people, especially a woman, but I guess I’d just rather it happen somewhere else.

Meet people at Starbucks. Or Borders. Or Barnes & Noble. You’ll find someone who has the same interests as you and you’ll be able to talk with them about something. I actually met someone yesterday reading Ayn Rand and I struck up a conversation. Later, while he was at work, he emailed me and told me he wanted to meet me again and talk about art, philosophy.

You need to find your [third place](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_Place)

You might try (assuming that you’re in an area serviced by it) [meetup.com](http://meetup.com). A friend recommended it to me as a way to meet other people who share my interests. I haven’t used it much because I’ve had other things on my mind lately, but it looks like they’ve got a lot of possibilities.
