Bassist Chris Squire, founding member of Yes and the only person to have been in every lineup of that band up until now, has lost his battle with leukemia. He was a hugely influential musician with a truly distinctive sound and style, and as one of the prime movers of Yes (along with Jon Anderson) he was one of the founders of the whole prog rock genre. He will be sorely missed. Billy Sherwood, who has toured with Yes before as a second guitarist, was already slated to play bass on their upcoming tours due to Squire’s illness. ---

I knew he was ill, but this is sad news. Awesome musician, and a voice that could have lead any band other than Yes. ---

As I said in the other thread I shouldn’t have started… Ugh, so very young at 67. God I loved his playing, and seeing him live…one of my first, best concert memories. ---

He actually has two solo albums: a few years back he made a Christmas album titled _Chris Squire’s Swiss Choir_. ---

Chris Squire **was** Yes. The Fish was the sole member who persisted throughout every single iteration of the band’s membership. Keeper of the flame. This is a huge loss for music. They were going on tour without Squire this summer, before this happened… I have a feeling Billy Sherwood just got a permanent position with the band. ---
