I said “ **I think** she is being too fussy.” It is part of my rant in this thread. Technically she can do what she wants.

She had been dating him for 3 **weeks**. I’m not confused why she was upset - they really liked each other. All of us thought there was a good chance she’d found her husband.

No they’d permit divorce. BTW she was initially just friends because she initially didn’t feel a peace about him - then she did feel a peace… if God can change his mind about him before marriage he might also do the same after marriage.

I found someone that is quite compatible with me but does a “perfect match” mean I should think they’re super attractive?

> So, where an atheist may indicate that they didn’t feel right about the relationship or that there was something “off”, Christians would attribute those feelings as being from God (as the Doxology goes God is “from Whom all blessings flow”).

I agree with this, but I also can see where the OP is coming from. The issue with this particular sort of Christian thinking is, essentially, that Christians can make bad decisions and then back them up with the weight of “God’s will.” As in:

atheist: “I think I’m going to quit my job and start a sanctuary for goats. It feels like the right thing to do.”
friend: “Are you sure? That sounds nuts!”
atheist: “No, I guess I’m not sure.”

christian: “I think I’m going to quit my job and start a sanctuary for goats. I feel at peace when I pray on this decision.”
friend: “Are you sure? That sounds nuts!”
christian: “WHO ARE YOU TO ARGUE WITH GOD’S COMMANDS?!?”

I have no idea if that applies to this situation, but I’ve seen firsthand people pray on decision after decision, make dumb decisions, and then wonder why God wanted their life to get shittier and shittier. “It’s because He knows I have the strength to endure this,” or “We cannot know God’s plan for us, but he has a plan so this must be part of it,” or whatever line of bullshit they’re using to justify their dumbassery this week.

**JohnClay** you have a topic ban regarding your wife and her attractiveness. Drop this line of conversation.

He has been single for a long time. He played his cards right until she considered that they were able to be more than just friends. My sisters screened their suitors to make sure they didn’t want premarital sex, etc. He attended her church (maybe he will continue to like the ex-boyfriend of the other sister from several years ago). He told her she was the most amazing woman in the world in a message while they were friends. No I think that he just wasn’t perfect in every way. Maybe he wasn’t on fire for God enough like my sister mentioned before they became a couple.

Wait there’s an ex-boyfriend now? And the most recent guy attended her church but may “continue to like the ex-boyfriend of the other sister”. Which team does this guy bat for anyway?

Did the massage end happily? Was it a massage from God? Maybe the most recent guy wants to get a massage from God from the ex-boyfriend.

Princhester:
Here’s what happened. Each sister had a long-term boyfriend for a few years. I think one was too interested in money and didn’t want kids - the other originally was Buddhist (he was with the sister in the OP). The Buddhist one became a strong Christian and works with “Mercy Ships” in Africa helping giving free operations to very poor Africans. He is married with children now. The ex-boyfriend of the other sister goes to their current church.
Here are excerpts from his preaching: (I made the video)

Warning: there is loud screaming at the end of the video.
Their church has maybe 15 people attending (the pastor got kicked out of his old church) and they are either members of the same families (brothers, sisters, parent, etc), married or extremely rarely - dating. The single people are usually totally single. So my two sisters hadn’t dated for several years because they were sure God would find them a husband.
BTW one time I had to fix the Buddhist boyfriend’s computer. I found a calendar of pictures on it that showed lots of sexual positions. Also in the belongings of my other sister I found birth control pills. (I saw it in an open bag - I didn’t go through her stuff) The first sister said it was for her skin. I am suspicious about that. Anyway they are both totally against sex before marriage now.

People is weird. Your sister is weird for obvious (but I guess predictably human) reasons. You’re weird for merely being “suspicious”. I’m weird for continuing to be amused by how “weird” people are, given how normal such weirdness is.

The yelling about God’s will.

The third part is generally a “I feel a peace about God about this. But I’m still going to pray on it”.

OK fine 🙂

I’ve actually never gotten to the 3rd part because I’m not one to confront people on their bad decisions, but I do know people who can’t seem to figure out why God keeps guiding them to make poor choices. I also know people who make great choices and then do their community a disservice by giving God the credit, as that just makes the former category of people more confused.
