Haven’t watched the show for a while so I’m not really caught up on where we are in the mythos. Tuned in for the Reeve guest shot and I enjoyed it well enough.

IIRC in the Byrne ret-con, either Jor-El or Lara (maybe both) knew that on Earth Kal-El would have super powers and there was something in Jor-El’s original message to Kal-El about ruling wisely, which was perhaps based on an assumption that one so clearly superior would rise automatically to lead/rule. We certainly see that impulse in Superman IV where Superman destroys the nukes and in several of the comics I recall from years ago when I was still reading them.

Has there been any explanation as to how the writing ended up on the cave wall?

Supposedly a Kryptonian visited Earth several thousand years ago and “got it on” with one of the Native Americans living near current-day Smallville. The same visitor probably left the cave writings.
