Cicada's - seen any yet in your area?

Central Illinois- we have them. I went outside to water a plant and when I came back in one was clinging to me. I was outside for about a minute. When I go outside the buzzing sounds like a horror movie.

We don’t get that kind up here, just annual ones. I haven’t heard any yet, and most years don’t notice them.

The cicada invasion begins.

The 2001 broods were in New York and along the Louisiana/Mississippi line. Do you mean 2004 or 1996?

There are over 200 species of Australian Cicadas and they only live underground as nymphs for 6 or 7 years. So, in Sydney at least, Cicadas are the sound of summer every year.

I guess it is the 13 year ones. The map link in my OP is for
2011 Magicicada Brood XIX (XIX is 19 isn’t it?) <shrug> anyway, it’s the big one this year. Arkansas has them this year.

I’m just West of Little Rock in Central Arkansas; nary a one.

I’m in MD. We had Brood X in 2004 - it was really overwhelming. The sites linked to suggest that this year’s Brood XIX extends to MD as well, but I haven’t seen any sign of them so far. We have the annual variety every summer, though.

Middle Tennessee here and they are indeed everywhere. I look like I’m having a seizure when I’m outside, trying to avoid the nasty things. I am convinced they are straight from Satan.

On the up side, it does appear that they are starting to die off finally. Maybe another week or so?

I think those are the ones we get too. Never a big swarm, just a few here and there, buzzing in the trees. You might see one husk a year.

ETA: Someone told me the flying adults have no mouths. They just come out to procreate and die. Is that true?
