Cigarettes: Why would anyone want a soft pack instead of a hard pack?

Yeah! Screw that guy.

(It’s been a few years since I quit, and I’ve never felt better.)

I thought part of the popularity of soft cigarette packs was that they’re easier for smokers to crush and hurl out their car windows.

First, my jaw literally dropped at the impressive level of unhealthiness packed into this convenience store purchase.

Second, I was wondering how many of the 2007 smokers in this thread still smoked. Good for you, Morbo!

I’ll add to those saying the soft and hard pack cigarettes are different. I never liked any of the box brands I liked in the soft pack. The box ones always seemed flavorless and stale compared to the soft packs.

I quit March 3, 2010.

Cigarettes stayed cleaner in a soft pack when working in a dusty environment. Especially if the lighter filled the opening. Also, one smoke comes out of a soft pack single handed. Takes two hands IIRC for the hard pack. Haven’t smoked cigarettes regularly in over 20 years though. Was using a pipe and / or cigars when I quit 16 years ago.

Thanks guys - it was a long road for sure.

AS I recall, Canadian cigarettes were nearly all in hard pack, when (early 60s) nearly all American smokes were in a soft pack. Rothmans were in the Marlboro-shaped box, but most (Players, Export-A, etc.) were in a box shaped more like a piece of toast.

I used to wonder about this myself when I was a smoker, mainly because the brand I liked was available only in soft packs.
