Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, and Lulu

Further to the point made earlier about Bacharach wanting to get the most out of Cilla, check out the slightly demented conductor - and the positioning of his piano - at this recording session (in the same year as the vid above - i.e. Cafe Royal live performance conducted by that other well known fella). Sadly, in this one the singing is not live, but it tells as much about how important the recording was to Mr Bacharach and their relationship:

21 or 22 is an age now, wasn’t so much back then.

He is a god and her producer so such deference should be expected.

And Wilson is also a god of the studio. Just a lesser one who recognizes this master when he meets him.

I had forgotten how geeky he is when conducting and playing.

Dusty Springfield. By a country mile.

I love 'em.

Anyone like **Duffy **from the modern set of Brit girl singers? I think she’s great…I like Amy Winehouse, too, but she has become too distracting and sad…

I wanted to like Duffy but she is a huge over rated disappointment very underwhelming.-
