So, to summarize: Someone forms an addiction to a prescription medicine. Does bad things to support this habit. Since she’s a public figue, it makes news. She makes all appropriate mea culpas, apparently stays clean for the next 14 years. Wildly left wing web site writes SHOCKING story about the great SCANDAL (which any normal, news-reading person knew about for, oh… **14 years??** ). Absolutely, this all makes her fucking scum. No doubt. Like everyone else that’s ever formed a prescription drug habit. Or did years ago anyway. :: raises hand , looks around and guesses this includes many Dopers as well, since we’re smarter than the average bear, but not perfect :: Unless you mean in the sense that her husband is scum, and since she’s (presumably) fucking him… Honest to shit, I’m not particularly a fan of her or her husband, but please. Swallow a couple Xanax and lie down. Just don’t get hooked and steal from mommy’s purse to get your fix, or we send Salon after you, got it? ---

Blame her, curse her, pity her. Whichever it is, this is one lady I don’t want as our First Lady. I normally try not to take spouses into account when voting, but this is one time that I can’t help but feel she’s a definite liability come election day. ---

[/QUOTE] I have no plans to vote for McCain, but I think this is beyond stupid. Who cares about the past of the spouse of the president? Or friends, or siblings, or minsters, or whomever? Many people have a past, and a whole lot more have someone in their lives who has a past. If someone would make a good president, I don’t care if he’s married to blow up doll in a bikini. It’s not relevant. We should treat elections as job interviews. Instead, we treat them like we’re looking for a roommate to share a two bedroom apartment. It drives me crazy. ---
