Cities: Skylines II is out

Probably we could have helped you with that - while the game does have its issues, constant crashing like that is not one of them.

If you feel like having another go, post a new thread here

and attch the game’s log file there.

I thought the crashes were a common complaint in the reviews?

On the Steam forum there are more than 9000 posts about crashing: Steam Community :: Cities: Skylines II

It crashes every few hours for me too, including on Geforce Now (Nvidia’s streaming service which uses their own virtualized and standardized game systems). I don’t get crashes in any other games, FWIW.

I would not spend money on this game right now. Maybe the new developer can fix some issues. Or maybe not. Paradox might just move it to life support mode. It’s kinda in a coma right now and who knows if they’ll pull the plug.

I do a lot of the tech support for this game, both in that forum I linked and in a ticket system. I’d say 90% of crashes now are due to mods (or conceivably mod-handling in the game), and others we have fixes or workarounds for.

While I’m not in the dev loop for it, I’ll pretty much guarantee Paradox will NOT pull the plug on it any time soon.

That’s good to know! I’m still holding out hope for the game.

Probably not until they have everything in one package for one price (i.e.: a “Game of the Year Edition”), if then.

Turns out CS2 hasn’t been the only game which gave me frequent crashing. Bought Star Wars: Outlaws when it was at a 70% discount a few weeks back and I just recently started playing in earnest. Didn’t have any problems until the fourth mission, then it started crashing like crazy, as with CS2.

After some research, and trying other possible solutions, I discovered that xMP is probably the culprit with SWO. More research led me to instructions on how to tell Win 10 (which also works for Win 11) to restart in BIOS setup in and turned off xMP.

No further issues so far.

I’ve been playing this game for quite a while now, and crashes have become increasingly rare (maybe once a month or so). It crashed a lot when I first purchased it, and I stopped playing until a few more patches were released. Now, it seems to play well. Granted, I still haven’t built a city with a population over 20,000, but so far, so good.

I really like CS2 a lot after the recent content and updates, including support for custom assets now. Much like CS1 I play a highly modded sandbox style.

For a lot of the modding, I think maybe some of that feels like it should have been part of the game itself.

The simulation itself is a bit wonky. I’m pretty sure deathcare is broken but there’s a mod to disable that. I’m not sure why that’s a thing anyway. Is processing dead people a major part of urban infrastructure the way traffic, water, and power is?

Trains seem kind of wonky as well. My rail network seems to get flooded with cargo trains and comes to a dead stop. Some other stuff too.

But generally it’s got a lot better so it’s fun just watching people and cars travel around the urban hellscapes I unleash.

Given the death waves that CS is notorious for, it’s probably relatively important to have a robust deathcare infrastructure in place

Yesterday 's major patch 1.06 - the first from the new dev studio IceFlake - has some specific fixes for death waves, among other stuff.

That links to the wrong game. Probably meant these patch notes instead: Patch Notes - 1.5.4f1 First Frost | Paradox Interactive Forums

Oops, sorry! Two patches on the same day for different games, unusual. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing! I’m really glad they’re not abandoning the game (as you said). Excited to see how the new devs take care of their new baby.
