City National Bank, you can suck it. Suck it long, and suck it hard.

I didn’t kick you when you were down, dumbass. You were complaining about having to do something that you agreed you would do, which is patently stupid.

Also, I’m sure the bank will have to miss out on several lucrative lending opportunities if you move your vast fortunes to another establishment. I bet they’re scrambling right now to maintain their deposits. Asshole.

I don’t know about the rest of the rant but this part gets me goin’ if you know what I mean. Oh yeah.

Come on baby …

I don’t get it. Does this mean that if I put someones check into the bank, thier check bounces I would get charged for it as well? I can understand if I wrote a check on the funds that were not there, but if I just put the money in the back and it bounces why should I be hit as well?

I got hit one time when I was in college. I put a couple of hundred in the bank, in cash. I then wrote a check a week later and got charged for bouncing the check. I put CASH in the bank, not a check, it should have gone through well before then.

Well, I’m not SnoopyFan but my guess is that he bounced 1 or 2 checks because he was $85 short, and the rest bounced as a result of the snowballing overdraft and insufficient funds fees the banks tacked on with each bounce. It builds up so quickly that unless you know right away when you become overdrawn, shit like this can happen very easily.

That’s kinda stupid - why should the depositor be responsible for knowing whether or not the person who gave them money is going to be able to pay for it? Should I never, ever accept a check without first making detailed enquiries into the financial status of the payer’s bank account?

No, but if there is a doubt, a quick phone call to the check-writer’s bank will tell you if there are sufficient funds to cover the check. I’ve done this in the past, if I thought the check might bounce. If there is a problem, I can go back and ask the person who wrote the check when I can deposit it or if I can get cash instead. Fortunately, this is usually not an issue.

I’m not sure where in WV you are located, but we (my husband and I) use National Bank of Commerce (yeah, the branches are located inside Kroger, with the main branch being on Capitol Street in downtown Charleston). They have been absolutely WONDERFUL since we switched to them a few years ago.
We had a situation occur, where someone, somehow, cashed a check of ours twice (they made a photocopy of the thing, and the depositing bank actually took it). It went against our account twice (to the tune of over $600 each time). The bank promptly called me, and helped me to resolve the issue, within a day or so. No fees, no fussing…absolutely wonderful. We pay no monthly fee for our account (since we have direct deposits on a regular basis). I believe they may also have free student checking.
Just thought I’d mention them as an option for you
