Well, **Fringe** , I have no idea what your likes and dislikes are, but WoW and CoH are rather different. My SO is hooked on WoW, and all I ever see him do is fish and pound rocks. Apparently he earns money that way, but it seems to me like an unnecessarily tedious and time-consuming way to do it. In CoH, you earn money (or “influence”) just by beating bad guys and completing missions. I’ve heard it said that WoW has more depth, but if fishing and pounding rocks is depth, I’ll take the shallow, action-oriented CoH. 🙂 ---

The character is named Saltire, but I really didn’t design him for longterm play. I just wanted to learn without getting too attached. He’s a simple Science Invul/Energy Tanker, presently level 4. I may go back to him someday, but probably not this week. To be honest, I’m looking forward to making my second character. It will be nice to try someone that does something other than run up and punch the bad guys. I’m thinking Defender or Blaster (which, if I understand things correctly, means I will definitely want to team up). ---

Any archetype can solo really, some just go slower than others. ---

However, depth isn’t always a good thing. I found the game to be far too tedious. It took too much of a time investment to do anything at all. To make matters worse, most of the deeper aspects of the game that are more enjoyable cannot even be enjoyed until very high levels. It just wasn’t for me. I’ll take the shallow, action-oriented gameplay any day. ---

Blasters are solo-friendly up to a certain level. Then they get smacked around quite a bit. Defenders are good after a certain level. Hard to do damage at the lower levels. Scrappers are probably the most solo-friendly class. Especially Regen or Inv. ---

Tanks or defenders are safe but slow. Blasters have trouble with bosses (since the bosses last long enough to do damage, which is bad). Controllers are hard to play solo prior to getting pets, and hard to play teamed afterward (as the pets get in the way). I like teaming. \*\*Dangerosa \*\*and I play a lot as a duo (defender/blaster, defender/scrapper, controller/blaster, controller/scrapper – neither of us much likes tanks), and I also play a fair amount in CECIL and pickup teams. Big teams are a rush, especially if they are balanced across the ATs and have players that understand team tactics. ---

Create a character on the Virtue server if you want to join the CECIL supergroup. You can join the CEClL chat channel from any server. Just add the global chat channel “CECIL” to one of your chat windows. Toaster has posted instructions on how to work global chat in the other City of Heroes thread. ---

Well, with much time spent in Paragon City and lots of debt paid back, I’ve now got my char up to 8th level. His name is Sky Hook. He’s a mutant energy/energy blaster with Hover. I’m definitely getting to the point where it’s hard to complete missions alone, so I’ve logged off the game to study the instructions for chat. It ain’t very intuitive to those of us who rarely irc. Luckily, NCsoft seems to know this, and has a tutorial on the CoH site. That’s what I’m gonna read now. Oh, and I guess it’d be a good time to eat, as well. Sorta forget about that when I’m heroing.
