Civ III help requested. I'm getting pissed.

That is our Cultural Victory.

Us Canadians already have the game too. How irritating that we aren’t one of the civilizations.

(Expansionist, Commercial)

I was thinking the other day of what civilizations they should add to the game in the expansion they’re going to charge us $35 for to get multiplayer. So far I have come up with these, (plus their special unit):

  • Canadian (of course) (Shock infantry)
  • Korean (Hmmm…)
  • Arab (Saracen, a new swordsman)
  • Jewish (Bigger tank)
  • Polynesian (Better galley)
  • Inca (dunno)
  • Viking (Berzerker? Or an early caravel?)
  • Celt, just to satisfy the innumerable celtophiles/wannabe druids the Internet breeds like rabbits
  • Thai (?)
  • Maybe another African civ. Swahili?
  • Spanish, or are they in the game already? (Conquistador)
  • Swiss (Halberdsman)
  • Dutch (?)
  • Australian, just to get kangaroo infantry

Anyone else have any they’d like to see added?

Rick,
No slur meant to our northern friends. More a shared culture. We can send more electronic stuff up there than anywhere else under export laws, and you send us hockey players. (I wore a NY Ranger jacket to work today, myself, and have been to enough games I know the words to O Canada .)

[sub] but will you please keep Celine Dion up there? [/sub]

I haven’t gotten the game yet. I should have it tomorrow, but it seems to me that all of the pre-release hype said that the game wouldn’t do this. I remember reading that the game was tweaked to make it very, very difficult for settlers and engineers to travel into enemy territory.

Friendship only goes so far.

I have my CivII permanently edited where Germany is now Poland (renamed the leaders, cities, etc).

Special Unit: Winged Hussar

Yep, it’s one in 16 for the leader. It does suck, and suck mightily at that. I’ve only done it once, when I was grinding the Aztecs into a fine meal. Unfortunately, I got him after taking their last city, so I didn’t really get to use him.

RickJ, I do have to take issue with your assertion that Music Theory is a crappy tech. there is almost no Wonder held higher in my esteem than Bach’s Cathedral.

True, assuming you have yet to build the Cathedral. However, if you’ve already built Bach’s Cathedral,* it’s a dead-end tech. There’s no reason to get it…

…and yet they’ll still pay through the nose for it.

Man, is it just me or are the leaders in CivIII the ugliest bunch of people you’ve ever seen in a game? They all look like pale corpses! Even Cleopatra looks like she’s about 95 years old with thin drawn lips and a permanent glare. And Queen Elizabeth and Catherine the Great look like they’re constructed out of paste and wax. Ick, ick, ick!

If you are on friendly terms with your neighbor you shouldn’t have problems sending non-combat units into their territory - I can only remember one complaint about non-combat units. If you aren’t friendly with them, they could be in trouble, as unescorted settlers and workers are automatically captured when an enemy military unit moves onto them.

I got a leader, who tried to raise an army. It was quite easy and unexpected actually. However I must say that I was losing territory by those bastard egyptions, so I think the computer might have “given” one to me.
One irratating thing I’ve noticed is that in addition to cities every 4 feet the computer also has monsterous reserve forces of warriors who take out my best soldiers.
Currently I’m on an island and I have 5 cities and 5 archers-no need for more because I don’t have contact with other armies.
I need a way to get money fast though.

Those freakin’ warmongering Aztecs. Do you think they really disband a few warriors in our honor?

And it really does work better with more than one rival.

Question/gripe: If you don’t need the graneries after you build the Pyramid, why can’t you sell them? Also, can you bombard a harbor city with a Gallion?
