I agree, and I would guess that they went into this gambling that he WOULD be back in power. If so they won’t even ask him to pay them back–they’ll just pay the judgment and write it off, hoping all the while that Trump will look on them with favor. (At least in this scenario, Carroll gets her money.) ---

The status is still “When Pigs Fly”. As long as Trump has the whole Justice Department under thrall, who would ever enforce it? The Marshal’s Service? They report to Homeland Security. The courts resorting to posse comitatus to create a new Marshal’s service that answers directly to the courts and not Homeland? Would get tied up in lawsuits about the authority. Her estate may eventually get something from his estate. But only if the elections lead to an administration change. ---
