Everytime I hear that song I sing THIS to myself.
I so wish the “main” Civ line would get one thing, just one thing from CTP: the public works budget. Seriously, screw Workers.
I loved 3. Every Civ has been a masterpeice.
Yes I also would like a smaller Civ game which could be completed in a few hours. I wish they would release Civ Rev for the PC though since I don’t have any of the devices on which it’s been released.
Maybe they will release it for Android sometime. My phone: the Galaxy Note has a 5.3 inch screen and is great for strategy games. I have read that Freeciv has been ported to Android; maybe I will give that a go sometime.
I was a big fan of III, as well. It had its flaws, but the addition of strategic/luxury resources and national borders was a huge improvement. The one thing I really miss in V is the lack of border influence. I loved building up a huge culture-producing city on my borders, and having it gradually eat up my neighbors territory and, eventually, their cities.
I still think that the next Civ game should take a page from the Total War series in terms of implementing religion. Each faction has a state religion, and each province/city has a percentage breakdown of religious adherents. The more non-state religion worshipers in a territory, the harder it is to maintain order. This penalty can be reduced with technology (in Empire, it’s Secular Humanism). Building churches/mosques/temples and recruiting missionaries helps spread your state religion (and buildings provide happiness to people of their corresponding religion). I think that this mechanic could mesh really well with Civ IV style religion civics.
I have all of them. A few months ago, I found Civilization: Chronicles cheap on eBay and picked it up. It has everything up through Civ IV, including the expansion packs for II and III. I’d completely forgotten how gameplay went on Civ II (and it’s kind of tough to play because it was designed for a tiny-resolution monitor so it appears in a tiny little window). I also have V - I attempted one game, and it’s still in the works - never finished it. Partly because I guess I have to be a responsible adult now, and partly because it just didn’t grab me. Of IV, which I got the day it came out, I’ve finished maybe three or four games. It didn’t grab me, either. Of III - tons and tons of them. It’s still my preferred “Go-To” version of the game. Then again, I don’t care for MultiPlayer, and I don’t usually go for the expansion packs, either. Right out of the box, the original III was my game.
YES! Dear God, I hated having to have all those vulnerable workers around, and every turn having to waste so much time telling each one what to do.
I also liked the idea of going into the future with technology, units, improvements, etc (rather than just 'Future Technology I, II, etc…)… but CTP failed by making them a little too off-the-wall.
I got Civ 5 at the tail end of last year (thanks again to everyone who participated in the Steam sale thread!), and so far I’ having a blast with it. It’s a little less intricate than previous incarnations, but overall it’s still a ton of fun.
I turn off all Victory conditions other than World Domination, use the biggest map possible, up the # of city states to max and just go at it. I’m about halfway to a win on Prince level, kind of as a learning game, but I’m sure I can win at King level next game. Every time I win I ramp up the difficulty one notch, so this will take me a few months before I start in with smaller maps and more limited scenarios.
