Earlier this year **Carnivorousplant** posted [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=298395&highlight=Classic+Arts+Showcase) about Classic Arts Showcase. I was unfamiliar with CAS at the time, but ran across this remarkable commercial-free phenomenon this week on my local public access channel. Already I am addicted.

The programming consists of 3-5 minute video clips. This description is from[the Classic Arts Showcase website](http://www.classicartsshowcase.org/about.html):

> The spectrum of classic arts disciplines aired on Classic Arts Showcase includes video samplings of animation, architectural art, ballet, chamber and choral music, dance, folk art, museum art, musical theater, opera, orchestral, recital, solo instrumental. solo vocal, and theatrical performances, as well as classic film and archival documentaries.

Very unusual collections. My favorites so far have been Dizzy Gillespie with a friend who just _squeezed_ out _Nature Boy_ on the baritone sax and a sort of _film noir_ Swiss version of _Rhapsody in Blue_.

Somestimes these run on PBS channels or public access, but they may be found [elsewhere](http://www.classicartsshowcase.org/channels.html).

This is worth checking out. Are there any other **Classic Arts Showcase** fans out there besides **Carnivorous** and me?
