Classic rhetorical/oratorial gestures?

It’s a specialized question, but I thought I might start it here.

I seem to vaguely remember, back in the hoary mists of time, one of my Classics professors mentioning a somewhat codified series of gestures that Roman orators would use, possibly to give people who couldn’t quite hear them well enough over a noisy forum an idea of what they were gabbling on about.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Where might I go for more information? If the Holy Dope ( ) has no answer, I’ll be forced to start polling Classics professors.
