Only time will tell if we stand the test of time.
Its writing like that that will get you into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Words to live by:
Snips of Captain Beefheart’s Neon Meate Dream of a Octafish
Oh man, that’s so heavy
Not to bring politics into the Cafe, but Robert Wuhl pointed it out first:
Back in 1984, The NJ State assembly debated a bill to change the official State Song to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born To Run”
In my opinion, No other comments are necessary
Call it a VERY mild swoosh furt… combination me being silly, expecting everyone to realize it, and an old inside joke… sorry
“Lather was 30 years old today.
They took away all of his toys.”
Jefferson Airplane from Crown of Creation
written by Grace Slick
I love this thread, because rock music has always been cheap therapy to me.
I used to catch myself quoting lyrics when I used to counsel college students:
"Y’know, it’s like Jackson Browne said,
‘No matter how close to yours
another’s steps have grown,
in the end there is one dance
you do alone.’"
So I loved it that one of Bob Weir’s songs (from my fave solo album of his, ACE) started with him saying:
“Look out now, cuz here comes some … Free Advice …!”
“It’s always funny until someone gets hurt
And then it’s just hilarious”
-Faith No More, Ricochet
“Looking so long at these pictures of you
But I could never hold on to your heart”
-The Cure, Pictures of You
“Early morning, April four
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride”
-U2, Pride (In the Name of Love)
All of those are kinda iffy as “classic rock” selections, I guess, but dammit, they’re good lyrics.
Every once in a while you hear great truth – and, well, poetry-- coming out of rock ‘n’ roll.
There have only been a couple of times that I’ve stopped what I was doing and just … listened. REM’s had that effect on me, U2, Dylan, Bruce Cockburn.
And I had to sit down and pull out the lyric sheet to my first 10,000 Maniacs album.
Other remembrances:
“We knee-skinned that river red” REM, Cuyahoga

Roadandeverytruckstop… Follow me, don’t follow me,
I’ve got my spine, I’ve got my orange crush.” REM, Orange Crush
“I can see the master’s hand
In every sparrow fallen,
In every grain of sand.” Dylan, every grain of sand
“The only thing we knew for sure about Henry Porter
is that his name wasn’t Henry Porter…” Dylan (w/ Sam Shephard), Brownsville Girl
She said, “Even the swap meets around here are getting pretty corrupt.” ibid
"If you twist and turn away
If you tear yourself in two again
If I could, yes I would
If I could, I would
Let it go…
This desperation
Dislocation
Separation
Condemnation
Revelation
In temptation
Isolation
Desolation
Let it go" U2, Bad
“Broken bottles under children’s feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won’t heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall” U2, Sunday Bloody Sunday
You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jiii-iive, having the time of your life…
Ha. Just thought we should cleanse our palettes.
Now let’s get back to good lyrics. Quick.
*In my time of dying, don’ want nobody to mourn
All I want for you to do is take my body home
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Jesus, gonna make up… somebody, somebody…
Jesus gonna make up… Jesus gonna make up my dyin’ bed.

Leaves are falling all around,
It’s time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I’m much obliged
For such a pleasant stay.
But now it’s time for me to go,
The autumn moon lights my way…
~ ~ ~
Many times I loved
Many times been bitten
Many times I’ve gazed
Along the open road.*
