There was an interesting article in Skeptical Inquirer about two years ago about articles that had been written about an ancient account of malleable “glass”. The original articles suggested that the “glass” was really aluminum (although how you can get “aluminum” out of “glass” is beyond me). The SI article debunked this interpretation, on a whole slew of grounds, but it seems to be another case of a claimed (if not real) transparent metal.
