The New York Orioles (Yep the Yankees franchise was in Baltimore for 1901-2)
San Antonio Chaparrals (Spurs)
ABA teamed moved from Dallas, became the Gunslingers briefly. Before they ever played a game, changed their name to the Spurs.
Philadelphia Nationals (76ers)
Come to think of it, wasn’t “Blue Jacket” the name of a historical figure, a white man who was adopted into a native American tribe? That’d be an… interesting… new choice of name for the Indians.
Another Baltimore Browns (Orioles). The original Milwaukee Brewers moved to St. Louis and spent 52 years there as the Browns, almost always overshadowed by the N.L.'s Cardinals.

Ironic, as St. Louis is the other city where Brewers would work great.
They did actually play as the Tennessee Oilers for two years
To be fair, Tennessee does have oil. Not as much as Texas, certainly, and not really around Nashville.
There is also (of great sadness here in Atlanta):
Winnipeg Thrashers (Jets)
Of course the original Winnipeg Jets moved to Phoenix.

Yeah, but those aren’t regional names like “Lakers”, “Jazz”, “Brewers”, etc.

“Orioles” kind of is, as it’s a reference to a bird species, the Baltimore oriole.

True, but “Browns” is not a common team nickname; it’s odd to think that two franchises that bore the name wound up in Baltimore.
First off, Utah is a state. Second, there does appear to be a Jazz scene in Salt Lake City .
I’m sure there’s a jazz scene in every moderately large city. But Utah isn’t exactly known for Jazz.
When the Guardians play the Dodgers in Los Angeles, there needs to be some sort of cross promotion with the MLS’s Galaxy.
Actually, the Devils would be the New Jersey Scouts.
True; they were the Kansas City Scouts before they were the Colorado Rockies, though “Scouts” is relatively location-neutral, while “Rockies” doesn’t fit in Jersey whatsoever.

Calgary . . . er, Flames.
True that you could fit “Scouts” to another location, but it was meant specifically as a reference to an iconic Kansas City statue (much like the newly-renamed Cleveland Guardians).
Has anybody pointed out that there is already a “Cleveland Guardians” sports team in existence?
Cleveland Guardians - Cleveland Men’s Roller Derby
That’s not necessarily an issue. Didn’t New York City have teams in the NFL and MLB both called the Giants? And I’m sure there are other examples.
Yes, but you would think that someone would have taken the simple step of looking up “clevelandguardians.com” to see if the domain was available.
Perhaps they did, saw that it was taken and planned to use another URL?
