# Clever one-liners that nobody got

Exactly three people (other than myself) have laughed at my “I \<3 the dominant paradigm” T-shirt. None of those three people was a member of this board – I wore it to Gettysdope a few years ago and got nothing but confusion there as well.

Sigh.

. Not so much a license to kill, **Heart of Dorkness** , although I sorely need that at times - but more like permission (an imperative even) for me to go forth and acquire things.

I guess it’s only funny to a few. Maybe I just need to work on the delivery?

It probably would help if we knew what the actual name is, but I can understand your reluctance. License to Acquire just doesn’t resonate.

My license plate frame reads

Avogadro we accept you  
we accept you one of us

I was absolutely tickled when I thought of it, but almost no one has remarked on it. I knew I was limiting myself to a small set of crossover knowledge, but I’d secretly hoped for more.

In this case, the dominant paradigm is wearing t-shirts that say “subvert the dominant paradigm”, which is subverted by wearing a t-shirt that says “I \<3 the dominant paradigm”. I think.

I know about 6.02\*10[sup]23[/sup] (at least I think I do; if the number’s wrong, ignore this sentence), but what does it have to do with acceptance?

That’s from the movie _Freaks_. It’s the chant of the freaks at the wedding banquet for the midget Hans and Venus, accepting her. But I don’t see any connection, either.

Just today, my best friend, a female punk rock show promoter, was trying to come up with a collective title for a show she was putting together featuring all female or female-having bands. She wanted to get as far away from any kind of Lilith Fair connotations as possible.

She asked me for ideas.

I said, “Fussy Pest?”

we decided the men would never get it… once I explained it to her

Incidentally, I don’t have to explain the Ramones connection to the “we accept you” thing, do I? Because I wrote a very heartfelt essay on that very topic. 😉
