Clicking Lamps On and Off

Cool! I actually didn’t know that; I had always thought it involved different resistances in series with the same filament, sort of like the way dimmer switches work. Thanks!

Same as anything else I ever click: I can NEVER remember if I’m supposed to single-click or double-click. So, like many others above, I just click until I have the result I want.

3-way lamps and bulbs have been around for a long time. How was it done before we used mouses?

For the most part, it wasn’t. Some of the early mice had no buttons. They were modeled after trackballs and joysticks where the button was seperated, sometimes activated with the other hand. The Xerox Alto used a mouse in the 70s. Before that they were very rare.
