It doesn’t have all the 100, but CNN has a good article on some of the characters he pardoned and their specific crimes.

I’m not very surprised. If he commuted Peltier’s sentence, nobody will remember it except FBI agents and Republicans who want to paint the Democrats as soft on crime.

By leaving Peltier in prison, he lets Bush inherit a cause celebre’; Democrats will besiege him with clemency petitions, and when Bush refuses them, that’s ammo to paint Bush as a nasty racist so-and-so.

So all the earthies and hippies and veggies with the “Free Leonard!” stickers don’t remember him?

Millions remember him, whether they agree with the jailing or not.

They portray the Demos as soft on crime anyway. Besides, Peltier was framed and I don’t think they would like a full discussion of the case in the press.

Somebody told me that Clinton also pardoned three NY area rabbis, who ran a phoney school, bilking the fedral govt. out of several million dollars. I saw Rudi Giuliani was visibly upset about the Marc Rich pardon-he was the lead prosecutor in the case. Not only did Rich stiff the US treasury, he was also trading with Iran, in direct contravention of US law.
We will see hoe Clinton benefits from this one down the road.

Heck. We didn’t even _prosecute_ Reagan for that.

This my sound naive, but didn’t Clinton make references to pardoning Peltier when he ran for Pres and re-election?

(Please forgo the obligatory Politicians-Don’t-Keep-Campaign-Promises line. I’m familiar with it.)

Not rabbis but Hasidic Jews. Go [here](http://www.newsday.com/ap/text/washington/ap846.htm) and scan for Stern, Goldstein and Elbaum. They weren’t pardonned but had their sentences commuted.

The site also has info about some other pardonees/commutees.

I may not have been clear. I meant that no one will remember the _commutation_ except the FBI and the Republicans. The “Free Leonard!” folks will be stirring up his cause for decades to come, but if there ever is a commutation, the Peltier supporters will be very quiet about it.
