Legally, couldn’t the House just deadlock and the Senate then just elect Trump’s VP, who will presumably be more mainstream(we hope)?
They’d be utter morons to do that and that is one thing that would make me leave the Democratic Party.
I won’t guess whether Johnson will win New Mexico, but Romney would almost certainly win Utah if he ran there. Problem is that winning 1 or 2 small states won’t throw the election to the House unless it’s already very close. (And for Romney to try to win a bigger state would probably just take the state away from Trump and give it to Hillary.)
Of all the nutty “How To Get Rid of Trump” ideas that have been floated here, this is the first one that made me stop for second and say: Hmmm, maybe! But of course the GOP establishment has an opportunity to thwart the will of the people at the convention and if they don’t do it there (and they won’t), they are not going to do it later. The party base that supports Trump would, literally, riot.
I think the wisest thing the GOP “establishment” can do is ride this one out, concentrate on keeping Congress in their hands, and figure they’ll try again in 2020. Hopefully by then Trump will have lost and gone away.
I agree. Sometimes the best play in football is the punt. Time to admit defeat and turn their sights on 2020. Will Trump come back? I wouldn’t rule it out. I can just see the hype: “Bigger hands…oranger face… bigger hair… Trump is back and this time he’s not holding back!”
Jill Stein polls almost as well as Johnson, guys. (one point difference in Reuters/Ipsos.) Why no love for her? Could it be that even in your weird fantasy lives you know she has no chance? Or, as the rest of us say, exactly as much chance as Johnson?
Prominent donors are not going to throw their money away by switching from Trump to Johnson. The idea is ridiculous. They’ll just keep their money in their wallets.
You want Chris Christie or the Newt for president? I might almost prefer trump.
