I have met with the powers that be, and we’ve learned from our mistakes and have come to a decision: the 2020 nominee will be Vince McMahon.

I just realized that the next debate is in Ne-VAH-duh/Ne-VAAA-duh. Do you suppose Trump will spend the first 20 minutes telling everyone how to pronounce the name?

Plus Palmeiri has stated she doesn’t recognise it as something she wrote. There’s absolutely no reason to believe its genuine and even if it is, so what? That there are some people on the left with cynical views of religion is no secret. There’s not even a hint that Clinton shares this opinion.

You know _somebody_ is going to mention that - maybe Clinton, maybe the moderator, maybe Trump himself. If Trump were smart and could at least pretend to be self-effacing he’d spike it early but I’m not convinced he can do “self-effacing”.

Trump keeps saying that the NYT is “failing” and losing money. Is there any actual truth to this or is it another complete Trump denial of reality?

During the last election, Obama made the better use of social media, as a straightforward method of mobilizing his voters.

This election is where information bubbles first showed their effect. Especially the effects of selecting info and facts, and multiplying rage.

And the effect is chilling. Not sure how this ever becomes right again.

I do wonder how Trump’s going to react when he finally realizes he’s become the one thing he hates and despises more than anything else in the world - a **LOSER**.

If he’s not already in the midst of a complete mental breakdown, he probably will be on November 9th.

All newspapers are struggling to some extent these days but apparently the NYT is [still in the black](http://fortune.com/2016/02/05/nyt-profit/), although [revenue is declining](http://financials.morningstar.com/ratios/r.html?t=NYT).

He’s going to claim that he didn’t really lose, that the election was rigged, and that the media are against him and that’s why they’re all reporting that he didn’t win, which he actually did. Bigly.

This should be the case but I fear that it won’t be. Trump will claim loudly that the election was rigged and simultaneously that he would have won if it wasn’t for the biased media and the “traitorous disloyal” RNC that turned on him. I don’t think he has the capacity to admit it was his fault he failed as something.

The warning signs were already there even in the last election. I can recall several FB ‘friends’ having serious meltdowns after Obama won the race. First of all, they were in genuine disbelief that Obama had actually won, and then the shock turned into genuine outrage. In this election, however, the intensity is many times greater.

In the days of conventional media people could talk among themselves and make false claims or arrive at invalid conclusions. They might find a voice or two on talk radio who agrees with them but the amplification effect is limited. With social media, people can share conspiracy theories and there is an endless number of people who will affirm false information and spread these ideas to others.

That’s why I have pushed back at those who look at 538 and conclude that this election is like any other – it’s not. Trump could still actually win this race. It’s a long shot and I certainly wouldn’t lay any money out on the table over it, but it’s still possible. All he would really need to accomplish is to chip away at Hillary Clinton’s positive ratings and maintain cohesion among his voting bloc. And I think it’s becoming increasingly clear that his voters do not care what he does or what he says. As I’ve been saying for a while, this race is about white christian nationalism, which trumps (no pun intended) everything else. If Hillary Clinton’s voters do not believe that we are facing a clear and present danger, she will lose. If they believe that she’s almost as bad as Trump (and many do), she will lose. Seems like a crazy thing to say right now in the middle of Trump’s ongoing scandals, but what Donald Trump is selling is rage, and a lot of people are buying.

Moreover, this anti-outsider sentiment is a global phenomenon. We’ve seen it in the UK, we’re seeing it in the USA, and next, I predict this will start to become a potent force in European politics. And that’s just as scary as what’s happening here in the US.

That’s one reason why he keeps saying that the election’s rigged. He’ll get conservative media to spin that as well and then he can get some validation. I keep wondering how far Trump himself would be willing to go to become president if there was an opportunity to contest the election results. I could see him filing a half-assed lawsuit, getting it tossed out, and then claiming the system’s rigged before bowing out. But I could also see him trying to have a Rutherford B Hayes result.

It’s already a potent force in European politics - consider the recent [Hungarian quota referendum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_migrant_quota_referendum,_2016) and [Merkel’s recent struggles](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/sep/04/mecklenburg-vorpommern-german-anti-immigrant-party-strong-regional-election-exit-polls-merkel). It’s weird, right? He endorses GOP Senators, who win their primaries – and who then rescind their endorsements of _him_. He advocated for Mitt Romney four years ago, and then – gets _nothing_ in return, except vilification for how Trump’s “promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University” alongside criticism of “the bullying, the greed, the showing off, the misogyny, the absurd third-grade theatrics.” And so he portrays himself as all on his own: one man alone, against the harsh media figures who’ve signed on for a cozy relationship with the Clinton campaign.

It’s tragic, really, that he’s so bad at making deals.
