I do use various little shortcuts when doing math in my head, but for this, I mentally did it the way I’d do it on paper. In my head I visualized myself carrying the 4 and going “6 times 1, plus 4…” Dunno why. But, for some reason, about half the time I’m doing math, I think 6x7=43 instead of 42. I have no idea why. Ever since I was a kid, I have to stop and think for a second if it’s 42 or 43. I always have to re-convince myself that it has to be an even number, or that I know 6x6=36, and 6 more is 42. But come up to me on the street and ask, “Quick, what’s 6x7?!”, and I’m likely as not to get it wrong. In most respects, I’m a reasonably sharp guy. Got through grad school and everything. Got a whole room full of people calling me “professor” these days. But… 6x7. Gah!! I didn’t bother watching the clip, because Donald Trump takes up too much space in my brain as it is. If he did argue over what 6x7 is, I’d have to have some sympathy for him. ---

Perhaps Mr. Trump has a learning disability he doesn’t want to talk about, so he compensates pre-emptively by telling everyone how great he is at stuff, hoping they won’t ask too many questions. I use translinear mathematics in my head, converting units via the configurative matrix (as designed by Wolff based upon the theoretical work of Reinmann), then eliminate the infinities via the process of renormalization. I got 102.00000001, which is close enough. This was how I was taught. (Seriously, I do 6_20 - 6_3) ---

As an extremely minor-league real estate investor, I would say that your observation goes double or triple for a purported real estate titan. You know what this thread is reminding me of? When I was in high school we had a D&D group. The nerdiest guy in the group tried to impress the lone female member by saying “let me add that up for you. I can do math in my head.” It was a running inside joke with us for years. ---

Mother Jones has an interesting column about trump, [Donald Trump Is Completely Obsessed With Revenge](http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/10/donald-trump-obsessed-with-revenge) and says that tonight’s debate could be all about payback. Who knows? North Korea seems sane compared to him. ---

What Trump is demonstrating in this campaign, among other things, is that he chooses _really incompetent people_ to work for him, and is generally totally incompetent at managing a large organization. Just an awful, awful general election campaign. ---
