Republican ground game? I’ve been making phone calls for Clinton and Tammy Duckworth over the past three weeks, and our GOTV efforts start in force in a week or so. I’ve heard repeatedly that the Republicans don’t have the ground game that the Democrats do, and I was wondering what that means. I live in Illinois, a state that Trump has about as much chance of winning as I do of winning the lottery (and I don’t buy lottery tickets). But I would have expected a call or two by now for Kirk or one of the down ticket Pubs. What is their ground game – and why does Trump’s apparent ignorance of the importance of GOTV efforts make so many think that the Pubs won’t have much of a ground game at all this year? ---

Who is going to write the bestseller? Let’s face it – the inevitable book that gives the inside story of what went on in the Trump campaign is going to be YUGE!!!. I’m wondering who you think might write it? I think it has to be someone at a high enough level to be privy to the inner workings of the campaign, and someone who has been around for most of the campaign – ideally starting during the primaries. That doesn’t leave many people, does it? I was also wondering if the book would have to be written by the ever-prolific “Anonymous.” I’m thinking that the book that would be on top of the best seller lists for months (which this would) might be a book that would make it hard for the writer to find work in another campaign. ---

In my state (FL) voter’s registered party affiliation is public info readily available to all parties. A such I doubt it makes a lot of sense for one party to call known adherents of the other party. As a sample size of one, I’ve received several GOTV callers from the Ds and zero from the Rs. I’ve also stopped answering calls from out of state numbers, most of which leave no message, so I may be leaving data about GOTV efforts on the floor. FL also has a plurality of folks who choose not to register a party affiliation. I’d bet those folk’s phones are ringing constantly from both sides. Is any of this applicable to you in IL? ---

No landline here either. I’m registered D and get lots of mailings from the D candidates. Every day has 1 or two glossy cards, many 9x12. Most are down-ticket, but a handful have been from Hillary about how woman-unfriendly / creepy Trump is. So far zero R mailings, although I see them in my building’s recycle bin addressed my neighbors. That’s the same place I put mine. As apparently do many other Ds here. I have gotten a couple calls on my mobile from the local D party canvassers, mostly asking for me to volunteer or to at least talk up voting D with my neighbors. Zero calls from Rs. Net of calls from random numbers that I’ve wished to the cornfield and could have been from anyone. One of which left a voicemail and turned out to be Peggy from Card Services. Again. Sigh. Hey, maybe Trump could molest Peggy & Rachel then they’d go off to an island someplace. For good. We can hope, can’t we? 😃 ---

Our US House Representative is running unopposed. So all I have to listen to are the overwrought Ayotte ads leaking over the border from NH. ---

If you are non-affiliated/registered as independent, you have a much higher chance of being called. Same thing if you’re over 65 - lots of GOTV calls are made to seniors to verify if they need rides. ---
