# Clinton v Trump - The Stretch Run Thread

Regarding all the Republican officeholders that have rescinded their endorsement of Trump, that doesn’t make them look any better in my book. What I would like to hear from them is a statement along the lines of “If you are voting for me, I would like you to not vote for Trump, and if you are a Trump supporter, I don’t want your vote.” Until that happens, I’ll assume that these Republicans are looking out for themselves, not fighting for some greater moral principle.

As the saying goes, “This time it’s personal.” If you are not a Muslim or a Mexican, and don’t have Muslim or Mexican friends (like most Trump voters), then his comments may not mean much to you or you may approve of them. But _everyone_ is either a woman or has a close personal relationship with one or more women. I don’t think _any_ woman, no matter what their politics, can approve of Trump’s remarks (although a very few might seek to excuse them), and very few men will as well.

He insulted and made sexual comments about “white women” before this. He even made that crude statement _about his own daughter._

This was a remark about _sexual assault,_ not “just” crude or insulting comments.

It would appear that someone he trusted (likely Ivanka) said, you better apologize, or this WILL kill you. He gave himself just enough cover to keep his loon supporters in line, but I think he probably lost a bunch of undecideds with this latest little peccadillo.

Can’t remember where I read it, it was a personal anecdote from an upper management Republican type, about his fancy gym membership. He was showering and changing with The Guys, trying to be quick because his daughter was waiting for him in the lobby. Pulling on his shorts, trousers, idly listening to Guys talking about that hot bit of stuff they just saw. And not giving a rat’s until he realized they were talking about his daughter, waiting in the lobby.
Not all epiphanies are pleasant.

Well, we’ll see if everyone is talking about his a week from now. Unless actual women come out accuse Trump of sexual assault, I can’t see this as anything other than one more in a whole string of outrageous things he’s said. From virtually spitting on John McCain POW status to saying he could kill random people in the street and get away with it.

Compared to officeholders who’ve kept their endorsements in full force?
I want more officeholders to rescind their endorsements. I want that so much that I’d gladly describe so rescinding as ‘better’. Heck, I’ll gladly describe it as ‘praiseworthy’. Granted, I’d love for them to do _more_ – but I’m glad some of 'em are doing _this_.

He didn’t say that he actually routinely killed random people on the street and got away with it because he was rich and famous.
This is pretty much the equivalent of saying that. What you’re missing, I think, is that this goes beyond insults or general statements. Trump is talking about his own personal behavior, stuff he actually did. This makes it personal in a way his other statements are not.
