I find crazy celebrations are much more enjoyable when they can be shared with others. Unless you plan to show your new piercing to a lot of people, I recommend the following instead.
Go to a convenience store which sells tobacco. Show them your ID verifying that you are indeed old enough to purchase tobacco products. Buy the cheapest pack of cigarettes they have. Take the cigarettes outside. Go through the motions of preparing to smoke. Then, act startled as you see the surgeon general’s warning for the first time. Hold the pack at arm’s length. Run around in a panic and scream- ‘May cause lung cancer?! My god! Do you think I have lung cancer? It could already be too late!’ etc. Finally, come to your senses and throw the cigarettes away.

Okay, in case you want to hear from someone who actually has one…
It hurt, yeah, but it wasn’t the worst thing ever. Most of the youchy-responses are failing to differentiate between piercings that go through the hood only, versus an actual clitoral piercing. A piercing through the hood is painful, of course but not excessively so, and definitely not the most painful piercing ever. It hurt, I breathed through it, it was fine. Hood piercings are relatively quick and easy to heal, and fairly common. Clit piercings can be extremely painful, are rare because few women are built for them, and are considered a far more hardcore piercing. The OP was asking specifically about a hood piercing.
I had my navel pierced at one point, and I couldn’t really tell you whether the navel or the hood hurt more, so it couldn’t have been that much worse than what you have already. It’s a big YMMV. To answer your other question, some of the funkier cartilege piercings can be among the most painful piercings, but not ordinary outer-ear cartilege.
A hood can be pierced vertically or horizontally. Mine is vertical. The healing was trouble-free, except that I was minorly sensitive to the stainless steel. If you’ve ever had the slightest hint of trouble with SS in the past (I had a little irritation with my navel, and occasionally my tongue aches from the SS barbell but not enough for me to switch materials) go with titanium, because different parts of the body react with varying degrees to metal allergies.
The no sex for six weeks wasn’t a problem for me, because I was in a LDR at the time and I did it between trips. No horseback riding? If you mean EVER, then I think you should talk it over with a piercer, but I think it would be fine after it is healed. If you really can’t handle not horseback riding for the healing period, then that might be a reason not to get the piercing.

Sooo, I also have one. Here’s my take on it.
It hurt. A lot, but only for one second. I liken it to an orgasm of pain, if you can imagine such a thing. As in, it was an intense, overwhelming sensation (not purely painful, just realllllly intense) that only lasted for a couple seconds then faded away pretty quickly.
Mine healed quickly and was not very noticable after the first week or so, then was completely done after about 6 weeks.
I have vertical, that’s the most common and probably the best idea.
And it does make intimate activities more fun. 😃
I would encourage you to get it! As for waiting for sex once you get it, my great piercer said to take it as I feel I’m ready. So, probably for the first couple weeks you won’t want to bump n grind, but after that, take it slow and see what feels good. If it ouches–stop, otherwise, have fun.

I just want to point out that I find earings get in the way when I’m nibbling on my wifes earlobes. Nothing exciting about tonguing and sucking on metal. I’d give them a lot more attention if she didn’t have them.

Ok, I had one. Friction caused an ulcer so I had to remove it.
Piercing didn’t hurt much. And it just got in the way.

Nothing exciting _for you_ about tonguing and sucking on metal. Some people find piercings very erotic. I have a new boyfriend who will get to enjoy my piercing for the first time next week, so I can tell y’all what he thinks after that. 😃

Cartilidge hurt a lot more. Cartilidge is more of an intense burning pain. Hood is a sharp one second pain that dulls to a numb pain for about 2 days, swelling goes down and she’s right, 'cept for you gotta keep it infection free (which can be difficult). For a long time I could not sleep on my cartlidge piercing (but that may be because I accidentally fell on it and pushed the stud all the way through, increasing the holesize 4 times).
But I did have a friend, who got it done after me, who it bled after and she said the pain was incredible. So I say, if, you know, you’re sensitive down there (which I am not really) don’t get it done.

I’m afraid my info is second hand, what with being a guy and all. A girl told me she loves her hood piercing and clit ring. She has one of those rings whith a little ball at the bottom that rests on the clit. She loves this, especially with tight jeans on. She also said that the hood piercing pulls the hood back slightly, exposing the clit a little and therefore making it more sensitive. A good thing according to her.
That was one of the most uncomfortable conversations I’d ever had since the girl started telling me this stuff only a few minutes after I met her.
So the rewards may be worth it. But OUCH! I still shudder to think about it.

Piercings really all depend on the person. No one can tell you if having _your_ cartilage pierced will hurt more than having _your_ hood pierced. My cartilage piercing was definitley not my most painfull piercing. I didn’t feel any pain having my cartilage pierced, though it was the worst when it came to healing. My tongue hurt significantly more than my cartilage did, but also was not too bad.

Monica, I have to state emphatically that I am dead-set against piercings, tattoos, anything like that.
If you want to change yourself, change yourself but don’t mutilate yourself. There is absolutely nothing attractive about piercing any part of your bod; quite the opposite, actually. I don’t even like “normal” pierced ears. Mother Nature makes women quite lovely in their own right and needs no assistance whatsoever.
Mind you, this is just my opinion. However, FWIW, I do know that I am not the only one who holds that opinion.

Ouch!!
I still can’t sleep on mine (they’re less than 6 months old), but that’s in part because I didn’t realize the white gold earrings I was wearing were irritating them. I have that stinking nickle-allergy and I have to watch what I wear. I can wear white gold in my ear lobes with no problem, rings, bracelets, etc…but for some reason in the cartilage it irritated them & they got swollen, esp the back (unless the backs weren’t really gold…hmmmmm). I went out & bought some very small yellow gold studs (teeny tiny small) - you might want to try small ones to make it easier to sleep in if they still bother you. YMMV
