Clogged bathtub help. Any plumbers in the house?

Hm. I didn’t see anything there. It looked like a straight pipe that goes horizontally to the T. I did undo the “slip nut”. I had thought it was part of the larger-diameter pipe, assuming that the whole pipe slid up. But it was threaded onto that.

The downpipe goes right down through the floor. Obviously everything goes to the sewer eventually; but as far as a tub/toilet connection goes, the toilet flushes fine.

One thought occurred to me: What if there was a linkage between the lever and an operational plug? Since the pipe goes straight down, I can imagine that the pushrod might have gone beyond the reach of my wire.

On the assumption that it’s a hair clog I’ve poured in some Liquid Plumr (the non-foaming kind). No joy.

My friend, from whom I bought the house, will be back tomorrow evening. He has much more practice with household repairs than I do, so I’ll see what he has to say. I appreciate the help; and if you can think of anything else, I’d sure like to try it!

What? How is that possible?

Hmmm. You have me perplexed, Johnny. Every plumbing fixture (installed to building code) is to be fitted with a trap, excepting toilets, whose trap is internal.

Also, the waste tee has two differing internal diameters-e.g. you can’t put it together upside down, and even if the linkage breaks, the drain basket stops at the position of blocking the tub from draining, hence my “go fishing” post.

I’m stumped, and about 3K miles away. Shoot me an email or revive this thread when your friend returns-always happy to learn. Good luck.

I used the two-part foaming stuff and got the same delayed action that CheekyMonkey613 did. In my case, it took about a day or two. I figure that the chemicals probably stick to the crapola and dissolve it over time.

Well, my friend took a look at it today. It’s draining normally. So it must have just been a frozen drain. My friend said that all of the other pipes are “memory pipe”, but the bathtub drain is metal. It’s warming up now (currently about 36°F), so it’s fine.
