I was talking (loudly) to my sister today about planning ChiDope. The gentleman who’s been in the cube next to mine for six weeks or so overheard and asked if I was talking about the Straight Dope. When I confirmed that I was, in fact, talking about the Board of Boards, he revealed that he is none other than the Dope’s own **pulykamell**. Holy crap, says I. So, hi, **pulykamell**! Glad to make your acquaintance! And sorry about all the loud conversations. I don’t realize how high the volume gets on my inane personal calls sometimes. Any other similar stories, since the last go-round of this type of thread? ---

I know for a fact that I called out one of my former coworkers on using a quote from the Straight Dope. However, I never did ascertain whether he was a member of the SDMB. Call it a “near miss”. Tripler I may have had other near misses/close encounters, but I never know. ---

I know I’ve told this story before but I really like it. About New Year’s Eve 2000-2001 I was attending a game convention called EveCon with a very good friend of mine, Greg. He asks if I want to play History of the World with a pal of his. He introduces me, we shake hands and Greg runs off to the bathroom. I look at the guys badge…it says, “John Corrado”. “So…”, says I… “Do the words…Straight Dope Message Board mean anything to you…” ---

I discovered within the past year that at least two other persons employed by the comany I work for were Dopers. And at our local base, there are only about 25 people total. It’s a wonder we get anything done at all. ---

Irishman, Ringo, and I all once ran into each other on a public street in the middle of Houston. What are the odds? I guess I should mention that this was a public street outside a pub where we were meeting in fifteen minutes. ---

The very day after \*\*jjimm \*\* told me where he worked, I was walking past the very spot and there he was, on the step. It is very rare that I’d be anywhere near that particular area on a working day, in the daytime, so it was pretty odd. He did accuse me of stalking him, right enough, but I am pretty sure he was joking. At least, I hope he was!! 😃 ---

I still think **pulykamell** missed a golden opportunity to start a thread about that loud bitch in the adjacent cubicle, then deliberately make annoying noises to have **gundy** agree, with a similar complaint. ---

The nature of my work negates my ability to advertise I am a member of these boards. However, when I first started posting I was a little lax on my deception and I would bring my **SDMB-Mug** to class everyday, and rest it on the lecturn or lab table or desk, depending on which ever room I was teaching in. One fine day I was teaching a group of Psych Stats students about Chi Square when I noticed a student with the **SDMB-t-shirt** on. Immediately I began to sweat a little. I really did not want a student finding my handle. So I took the mug and put it down out of his sight. I never did find out what his handle was…thankfully mind you…because one slip on my part, and I’d be found out 🙂 ---

As I may have mentioned before, it’s possible that **voguevixen** and I could’ve run into each other before knowing of our Dopeness. We worked for the same company, had the same boss, and worked _almost_ at the same time. Plus, she was friends with said boss while I was still under him. I also seem to remember **Tars Tarkas** and I saying, “You were there? I was there!” about something on the boards. So no bona fide Doper encounters for me, yet.
