Some styles I would like to see make a return:
-Nehru Jackets: these look cool! Plus, no need for shirt and tie!
-those funny flat-top straw hats (“boaters”)
-big, broad-brimmed “gangster style” fedoras
-double-breasted jackets (extra-wide lapels)
-For women: fur collars on coats, with those minks heads cleverly made into clasps!
-cloche hats
Anyway, lest you think I am prop[osing a return to the 1930’s, why can’t we have MODERN clothing…like those uniforms worn by the spacemen in “FORBIDDEN PLANET”? 😃

lol, you can make and wear anything you want. people might think you look silly, but in general there is nothing except your employers in house dress code preventing you from dressing oddly. And women still can wear nehru jackets, saw some nice ones in a catalog=)

Sans the mink head, but women’s [fur wraps](http://www.neimanmarcus.com/store/catalog/prod.jhtml?itemId=prod14760167&parentId=cat4160734&masterId=cat2830735&index=5&cmCat=) are in style for fall.

The clothing style I’d like to see return is the style which actually fit the people wearing the clothes.

I’d like to see the return of women’s trousers which didn’t require the waxing of pubic hair. I’d like to see women’s shirts which cover the small of the back and the underarms. I’d prefer a season of skirts in which women could bend over from the waist without exposing their underpants.

I’d like men’s shirts which also cover the underarms. I’d like to see stylish, trendy trousers for young men which never threaten to reveal the tops (or more) of his boxers or briefs.

For all genders, I’d like a movement away from pants with eighteen extraneous pockets, pouches and loops attached, especially when the extraneous pockets and pouches all seem to have a flap, a snap, a zipper or some other extraneous closure.

I’d like a return of casual shoes, especially in summer, for women which aren’t athletic shoes and don’t have some sort of heel.

And I’d like a return to the idea that a well-dressed person wears a hat when out on the street. Hats are wonderful things.

What **TeaElle** said. I’m taking economics at a city college and I am appalled by the horrible, horrible styles of the younger students (I’m a wrinkled and ancient 26 years old). The classiest looking students are the religious Muslim girls in ankle-length robes - at least they don’t have unsightly fat sticking out! Just because you can fit into it doesn’t mean you should wear it, kids.

I am also a hat fan. Cloche hats for ladies and fedoras for men are just lovely. I used to have a cloche hat, too. I wonder what happened to it. I’d have no problem wearing one in public.

You have to look like Clara Bow to wear one of those: perfect, heart-shaped face. Everyone else looks like Mr. Ed in 'em. Now, a nice big Gainsborough hat, or a Eugenie . . .

I used to have one of these. It was actually a stole that consisted of two minks linked together and was very cool. Anecdote I must tell: I lived in Athens, Georgia from 1988-1990 in the bottom of a duplex. To either side of me weree fairly elderly neighbors. One day, I did a big apt. cleaning and draped the stole over a hanger and hung it on the backporch to air out. I went to run errands and when I got back, there was a note on my door from animal control that said “ma’am, the animal on your back porch is dead.” :dubious: The only thing I can figure is one of my neighbors thought it was a cat I’d strung up…

Anyway, what I wanted to come back into style, already has: pointy toed shoes and pencil skirts. I loooove the fairly classic clothes which are in right now. I did kinda like jeans when they fit more loosely but I like it when they ride lowish on the hips.

Oh dear gods, I know what you’re talking about. I’m an undergrad who occasionally slips into the bad dressing habits of my peers, but cringes at the sight of some of the outfits girls wear to class, especially on hot days. (“Honey, I know it’s hot outside, but a bikini top and teensy-weensy hot pants with your buttcrack hanging out is not attractive.” Is it bad that I feel better about my appearance when I see a somewhat overweight “emo” girl with her beer gut hanging out over her pants and her shirt doesn’t cover it?)

Personally, I’d like to be able to buy pants, shorts, and shirts that covered up my midsection without resorting to the men’s section of a store. (Yes, I know I’m tall _and_ in proportion, but that doesn’t mean I want to be half nekkid when I leave the house.) I’d also like to see clothing in shapes that are a bit more flattering to me, and accomodate the fact that I have hips and am not middle-aged.

Given a sewing machine and some time and money, I’d probably already have a really cool winter coat, made in a traditional Chinese style. (If you’ve ever seen _Raise the Red Lantern_, you’ll recognize it. They’re gorgeous and work well with my needs.) I’d also have some clothes with structure that would be a cross between the 50s/60s clean lines, but also have some odd add-ons, like straps to adjust in certain areas, and embellishments that aren’t so feminine. (I may like to be feminine, but really feminine embellishments look awful on me. I end up looking like a man in a dress, IMO.)

Well, I still have all the zebra-striped spandex I wore when I was a long-haired rock star wannabe back in the late 80’s.

I suppose the look could come back if it wants to. Me putting that stuff on now would be a pretty horrifying experience for all witnesses, however.

If you ever join us for a Philly Doper Dinner, you’ll wear this, right? Your lovely wife is welcome to dress like a normal human being – but this, this, I’ve got to see.

Ballet flats are quite popular. I have a pair with a Mary Jane strap that are positively adorable. Today, in K-mart of all places, I found a great pair of super pointy flats. Cockroach killing shoes for sure. They’re comfortable enough that I can wear them to class, too.

For example, [Marc Jacobs](http://store.shopbop.com/item.jsp?item=MARC529&category=MARC_SHOES) makes flats.

Aren’t [these](http://www.villagehatshop.com/product1700.html) cloche hats? I bought a black one for fall and I must say, I’m absolutely _adorable_ in it. 😉

Yes, those are cloches, and I’m sure you do look adorable in them. But for those of us with less-than-Garboesque features, they are akin to strappin’ on a feedbag.

I kind of liked Eisenhower jackets. In high school I wore my father’s, which was real.
