My aunt rescues and boards dobermans. They haven’t locked their door in years. No one goes near a house with 15-25 barking dobermans in it.

I can believe it! Of course, there is the theoretical risk that one of the dobies could actually bite someone. Our St. B would not have bitten anybody unless you chained her up and shoved their arm in her mouth, maybe not even then. Drowned them in slobber, maybe, but no biting.

I read the title and I thought this was a pitting of Republicans and conservatives only to find out its about people who want to shoot dogs out of guns.

I am aware that certain people claim a pit bull or other “fighting” dog is a good protector, but (as a generalization) they lack aggression toward humans, suspicion of strangers, and sense of territory (although it’s been said “a pit bull owns only the ground he’s standing on,” a reference to the dogs’ supposed unwillingness to back down). They were originally bred to fight dogs, not people.

This!!! My baby girl, Apa, is a pit-boxer mix. Cutest dog on the planet. And totally not a protector. She will bark when anyone comes to the door (even me and my husband), but out of nervousness and excitement. When any human comes into the home, she runs backwards, sits next to them on the couch, and licks them. She is incredibly submissive. The only time I have ever seen her be aggressive is with another dog.

I love them, but quite frankly, I would not rely on either of my dogs for protection. To alert me, sure… they go nuts when someone comes near the house. But unless the intruder has a phobia of dog kisses and face licks, my dogs are not preventing a burglary. And if the burglar gives them food… it’s over.
