As I sit here cruising the Dope, I absentmindedly kick of my loafers (no socks) and suddenly realise that I am casually wearing all name brand or designer duds. Bally loafers, Dior slacks, DKNY shirt, Cardin jacket thrown over my exercise bike (some Italian tie in one pocket), Klein under-roos. I had on Dior socks till after church, which left my body after coming home, along with the afore mentioned jacket and tie. I should probably change into some sweats (LL Bean Cool Jay), but what I have on now is still comfortable enough. Thing is, I didn’t think about the snob appeal (or perhaps poor taste, depends on your HO) of what I threw together until just now. Now that I think about it, I do stuff like this a lot. My drag around camera was an M3 (now it’s an Olympus digital). My power tools are DeWalt and Milwalkee. My car is a basic foreign used sedan now. I just got rid of the Prelude. I work in construction and yet I get a manicure every month. I don’t get haircuts, I have a freind “do” me at a very upscale salon (for a huge discount, she likes having guy clients talk her up, don’t ya know…). I rarely, if ever, pay full price for any of these things. But, I do seem to gravitate towards them. It did surprise a few people at church that I wasn’t in my Naconas. So, where do I fit in on the scale of Snobbery vs Metrosexuality? Or am I just a good shopper? As a side note: Who wants to go in a bracket on how long til **Alice in Wonderland** finds this thread? 🙂 ---

I don’t know. But I think maybe saying “under-roos” pulls you away from the snobbery side of the spectrum. ---

Metrosexual here. You sound like you just appreciate quality and you care about your appearance. Nothing snobbish about that. As long as you don’t look down on others with different tastes or budgets. Except for the macho, neanderthal types, then have a field day. 🙂 ---

Heh. I’m wearing some jeans from Wal-Mart (I think. I have had these since 10th grade. Easy when I don’t really ever wear jeans), some mismatched socks because it was dark when I got dressed, and a free club shirt I got for giving campus tours and stuff. Where do I fall? 😛 ---

Naconas? I’m gonna go with you just got style. And the interest to pursue it. I would like to dress better, wear nicer clothes etc, but I can’t really afford to buy great stuff, I don’t have the time to shop for it (you know, buying all the “right” stuff) and I don’t really have all that much style. At work it’s khakis and usually some kind of plaid shirt, after work it’s jeans, sneakers (sandals in the summer) and a t-shirt with holes in it. ---

[Naconas](http://www.wehmeiers.com/html/mens_nocona_boots.html) I don’t spend a lot. And sometimes I am a slob, just bumming around. Or in plain ol’ 501s and a tee. But, to dress up is to dress up, ya know? For church, weddings, going out for a nice night, or trying to impress (which sometimes actually works!) Funny thing is to have my work people or my friends people see me in the other clothing. (I do have a few friends that are in both categories.) The response is usually some degree of shock. Even way back in HS, I used to create a lot of talk in regards to dress. I spent most of HS (and what little college I did) in Levis and tees, but always dressed up for Fridays. Just a little quirk/habit I had. Also, I mostly worked in retail then, so I had to have business wear. One of my teachers stopped dead in her tracks and told me I looked gorgeous when I approached her on the sales floor. Mary Joe something was her name… (No, I’m not gorgeous. But I did look ab fab for work.) Apparantly, I currently slightly resemble Ron White or Troy Aikman (according to some female friends), tho I think Jack Black is closer, face wise. Anyways. Enough about me. Let’s talk about you. What do _you_ think about me? btw, I blame this obviously self pandering thread on the recent events concerning my so called love life. ---

Me buying a brand name means I bought something clearance from Old Navy. And I do buy jeans and slacks from Lands’ End cause they have free alterations and no one stocks a 26 1/4" inseam. And you should see the clearance sales at Target! ---

With neanderthal being a 1 and metrosexual being a 10, I come in at about a 3 or 4. I _can_ pull a 7 or so when I go out somewhere, but the sheer amount of time I spend at 1 or 2 pulls the numbers down. 😃 I am generally a jeans and t-shirt neanderthal. My girlfriend buys me expensive gear, and half the time it isn’t very good. She has bought me pairs of $200 jeans that have fallen apart after one season (and that I didn’t particularly care for the look of, though I didn’t tell her that). I also feel wasteful and _guilty_ walking about in hideously expensive clothes. Also, and I don’t know if I’m alone here in this, I have a problem with paying _more_ to be a walking billboard for a clothing designer. Paying somebody for the dubious “privilege” of advertising their commercial enterprise just seems wrong, and I feel like I’m being very gullible. Just as most free online services are ad-supported, and users can pay to remove the advertising, I would expect a t-shirt with DKNY emblazoned across it to be significantly _cheaper_ than one without. Admittedly, at the moment I’m wearing one which says NIKE in huge letters, but I’m just lounging about at home and the shirt’s an obvious 200 Baht Thai fake. 😃 ---

Except for this thread, I try not be gauche in my choices. My shirt may have a tiny DKNY label on the pocket, but it’s covered by the jacket. Same thing with any Dior dress shirt. The label is hidden once you’re fully dressed. I saw a guy at the mall the other day (the same day I saw the 8 yr old hooker) that had **Tommy** in 6" high letters on his shirt, and **Boy** in 8" tall letters on his slacks. I wanted to tell him that a hoodie and worn jeans are a better style choice for him, but his bling bling showed him to be a mayjah playah, so I left his 19 yr old white ass alone, knowwhatI’msayin? ---

T-shirts with DKNY etc. emblazoned on them don’t count as designer wear. Designer clothes aren’t just about labels. That’s an old fallacy.
