Actually, since T-ball is so massively non-competitive (though possibly the single most entertaining team sport to watch), I wonder if this coach isn’t more someone who just really hates mentally disabled people: I’ve seen this, people that just can’t stand being around someone who is mentally disabled–it’s an ugly, ugly side of human nature. Whatever “logical” reason he gave to the other child, his motivations may have had less to do with wanting to win, and more to do with just wanting the kid out of his sight and off his team. I don’t think this is more or less evil than the competition motive, but I think the motivation may be different than what is being assumed. ---

Un–f%\*#ing–believable. I suggest first the pelting from a major league pitcher, then the stockade in the middle of town. Then I’d put his face on those little plastic shields they put in urinals and make every public establishment use them for one year. And one more thing. He should be made to help the disabled for a year, as well. What a pathetic excuse for a human being. ---

I wonder how he’ll explain to them why people now use the word “asshole” whenever he appears in a room, and why Daddy won’t be able to coach their team next year. ---

An adult-supervised T-Ball league certainly seems a good place to accomodate kids of different abilities: it’s as noncompetitive a game as organized sports gets. Other activities I can think of are _not_ recommended for the cognitively impaired, at least not without the supervision of a responsible adult. The SDMB, for example. This, unlike T-Ball, is definitely not a place to keep running when you should stop. That word you were looking for earlier, the one you should use? Neither PC nor non-PC, I’m afraid. It’s “Goodbye.” Spell it wrong, if you want. Just mean it. ---

However, “retarded” is still used, as in “mentally retarded”, and while it may eventually become just another insult like “idiot” or “moron”, I’m in no hurry to help it along. ---
