You’d be amazed at some parents. The husband of a friend of mine coached t ball a few years ago and parents cursed him from the bleachers, called him at home and at work to heap abuse, and encouraged their children to bully his children. They finally had a sort of intervention with the four main problem parents and told them to knock it off or their kids were out of the league and reports would be filed with the police. One of the knuckleheads tried to defend his actions by claiming he was only trying to protect his child’s future career from bad, prejudiced coaching.
Even though he doesn’t coach anymore, he watches some of the games and notices that parents are much better, though some still try to keep score. In t ball.
That must be one of the lowest things I’ve seen in the pit. Shame on you!

I guess it wouldn’t be a good thing for the kids to use the coach as the tee.

Excuse me. I was away for the weekend. This happened less than 50 miles from where I grew up and was front page news in Saturday’s paper.
I’m disgusted, but not suprised. You see, as I’ve mentioned, my best friend was handicapped. Since girls weren’t supposed to be interested in or good at sports when we were growing up back in the 70’s, no one tried to hurt her because she was “hurting the team” in some way, but she did get picked on and sometimes pushed and shoved because of her handicaps. She wore leg braces and a back brace and wasn’t very graceful. She was also quite timid, but the way she was treated probably contributed to that.
There are people who think it’s all right to mistreat those who are handicapped in this state and in this thread. I can’t describe my contempt for them, and it’s probably a good thing that someone who did so in this thread has already been banned. I hope the community will react against this coach; a lot of things have changed since the 1970’s. On the other hand, experience tells me that’s not the way to bet.

One was, starting in kindergarten. She was my best friend and a hell of a lot of fun. I’d take one of her over a hundred jerks like you. I spent my youth taking on bullies like you. Be glad you’re gone.

Well, this doesn’t really surprise me, especially since fucktard is from Dunbar. Dunbar, for those of you that don’t want the “pleasure” of visiting the unofficial set of Deliverance, happens to likely be the highest concentration of white trash anywhere in the state of PA (I did an internship in Uniontown 2 summers ago, and it was part of the tour with the company joker…dump would be a bit too polite) and home of the wonderfully world-famous Pechin’s Shopping Village, a place I’ve called the “Redneck Factory Outlet”.
So, this doesn’t surprise me that an inbred anal fissure would do this…just hope that his sister stops giving him sex and kicks him out of the trailer to sleep in the pickup truck with the dog.

As a little league coach myself, I find this coach’s actions one of the highest forms of betrayal of trust that a coach is required to give his/her players. You’re not there to win a damn T-ball game, you’re there to give each kid an opportunity to play and improve his/her rudimentary baseball skills no matter what level they are at. Here in our neck of the woods, the coaches here are screened so there are less idiots like Downs getting through to do crap like this. The article stated that Downs would probably not coach the next year which I find appalling. Here, it would be a banning offense…kind of like that wild pitcher named Coldie.
And of course, kids come in all shapes, sizes, attitudes and abilities. I’ve learned a long time ago to get used to the wide array of kids and the parents that bore them. Patience and Tolerance are saving graces. I would have loved to have that kid on one of my teams because I get a kick out of seeing any player improve, even if in small steps, especially the ones that started out with little or no skills at all.
That’s what makes coaching rewarding for me.
T-ball was quite a while back for us and I miss it sometimes. It was the most fun of all the levels of softball that our girls played, partly because you could watch most of the players improve almost from game to game. And the joy on their faces when they did it right was worth all of it. Of course, the Keystone Kops aspect was kind of fun, too. I just hope this little guy can try again, if not t-ball, then something else that gives him a chance to grow and interact with other kids.
This story just came up on the morning news. Apparently the coach is now denying he did any such thing. According to the news, he recently got into a dispute with a referee and jokingly said he’d give any kid who could hit a line drive into the ref $25. I can’t find a cite for this on-line yet. Even if that’s the case, the coach is still a jerk.

I don’t think anything good has come out of there, ever. Of course tee-ball is violent in a place where housewives in mumus fist fight over who’s getting the nicest rump roast for 2 cents a pound at the Pechin’s Shopping Village.

There are some facts in dispute. Maybe the mother exaggerated what had happened? I guess we’ll see how this plays out in court.
