According to Louisiana law, cockfighting doesn’t fall under animal cruelty because fowl are not considered animals. [LA Revised Statute 14:102.1](http://www.legis.state.la.us/lss/lss.asp?doc=78236)😕 Look at section D. God, I’m so proud to be a native. ---

Score another point for cultural bigots and animal rights extremists. Game roosters will still be fought in the mainland US whether it’s legal or not. It’s a felony in OK, and I know for a fact that it still occurs there. It still remains legal in Guam (long knife) and Puerto Rico (postiza), both US territories. What I wonder, is where is HSUS going to focus next? Make matching game roosters a felony across the US? Make it illegal in US territories? Make horse slaughter for animal consumption illegal (you do realize that we still export them for slaughter and slaughter them here for animal consumption)? Factory farms? Maybe trapping? ---

The old “we can’t make murder/drug use/child abuse illegal because I know for a fact it will still take place?” Coupled with the old “my culture does it so you’re a cultural bigot if you don’t like it”? Dude, those are _discredited arguments._ For example, we’re NOT going to legalize female “circumcision”, child sex workers, dueling, or whatever, just because some cultures do these things. Make an argument that cockfighting accomplishes some social benefit, but don’t call us bigots for not liking a cruel, savage practice.
