As I’ve said many times, I like alcohol but seldom drink any. But with the change in weather, I’ve decided to indulge. Last week I made two daiquiris and a mojito. Yesterday I had some Bacardi 8 that The Wife brought home, and three mojitos made with the mint from the pot on the deck. Three ounces of rum in each drink. I find I really like the mojitos. Nice and refreshing. Gin and tonics are refreshing too. I had a piña colada last December when we were in Puerto Rico. First one since the '80s. I don’t think I need another one of those. A couple of years ago I had a couple/few ‘ouzo sunrises’ – ouzo, orange juice, and some grenadine. Pretty good. Anyway… The bar’s open. What’ll you have? ---

As I learned from this place, the trick for kicking a gin & tonic into overdrive is a few splashes of bitters. As for cocktails - the wife makes the World’s Best Bloody Mary, so one of those is always welcome. Just don’t anybody order a “Sexual Innuendo That Will Get You Thrown Out of Any Real Bar.” 😉 ---

I live in a cold climate. Was snowing yesterday. But beer still works. Just about any type but a strong IPA. Was in Germany 3 years ago. They know their beer. And are VERY serious about it. At one hotel, I was offered the keys to the kingdom. Just grab whatever beer you want out of the bar fridge and write down you room number. At one point I grabbed a few to take back to the room and the waitress that was cleaning up was VERY sure that I got a proper glass for each type. All I really wanted was a bottle opener. And also, what I liked about Germany, the mini-bar in the room had reasonable prices. Same that you would get in the bar. As far as cocktails, my go to is a gin and tonic. Or Bloody Mary around breakfast time. However, my Wife and I just got back from Key West which was mostly Margaritas all day long. Got to replace the salt that you sweat out. 🙂 ---

We have a mint patch, it’s our anniversary, and wife wants mojitos. Going to be one of the hottest, sunniest days ago far. Mojitos it shall be. What’s anyone’s opinion dirty mojitos? I love dark rum, but I’m not sure how I feel about its flavor in a mojito. ---

Technically it is a “Sloe Comfortable Screw on the Beach”, being made with sloe gin and Southern Comfort, as well as peach schnapps and a couple of juices. It does exist purely for the name as it is a truly unpalatable concoction but one that every Tom Cruise wanna be bartender knows by heart. I’m not generally a fan of any complicated cocktail but a properly-made bourbon Manhattan is a delightful pleasure. I’ve found it necessary to be very specific when ordering, however, lest I end up with a glass of J&B filled with ice shards and way too much cheap sweet vermouth. Stranger ---
