OK, I think most people are posting pop song lyrics that are about coffee. The first thing I thought of was an old ad, that I still find myself singing the jingle to all the time for Cain’ s coffee. Back in March, in our Bernadette Peters concert, my chorus (North Coast Men’s Chorus) performed “Coffee in a Cardboard Cup” . . . complete with elaborate “choralography.” And just last week we performed it, and six other songs, at the GALA festival in Miami. “Coffee” got us a huge standing ovation. \*The trouble with the world today, it seems to me Is coffee in a cardboard cup. The trouble with the affluent society Is coffee in a cardboard cup. No one’s ever casual or nonchalant. No one wastes a minute in a restaurant. No one wants a waitress passing pleasantries Like “How ya miss? How ya sir? May I take your order please?” The trouble with the world today, it’s plain to see Is everything is hurry up. It’s rush it thru, don’t be slow, B-L-T on rye to go and Java - cup of joe - espresso - cappuccino Black coffee in a cardboard cup. The trouble with the helter-skelter life we lead Is coffee in a cardboard cup. The trouble with the world today, it’s plain to see Is everything is hurry up.
