You have to pick one. Three years ago this would have been a no-brainer. I’d have hoisted my beer and laughed at the coffee afficionados. A few years older and it’s a bit scary how my morning (and afternoon) coffee is to me. Desert island situation, I’d have to choose beer, just to dull the monotony and pass the time in fine fashion. Normal civilized living, I think I may choose… coffee. Shazam. Old at 34. (This seemed like a Great Debate. If it’s ruled IMHO, please move it. Thanks!) ---

What an awful proposition. ☹☹☹ I’ll take Coffee and Chardonnay for $1,000. Pressed to the line I’d have to choose coffee but **damn** this is an evil question. ---

I love coffee and have a severe caffeine addiction. But it’s not that close. Beer. I can get my caffeine fix from soda if need be. I drink beer in far too many other situations. ---

I mostly gave up coffe last year for my stomach. So I’ll keep the Bass, I get my caff fix from Ice Tea instead. ---

Beer, no question about it. I drink maybe 4 cups of coffee a year, if that. I don’t need caffeine to function in the morning, but I really want the comfort of knowing a good beer is waiting for me if I have had a bad day. Plus, I make my own, so I know it is good. 😃 ---

Beer. Hell, I homebrew beer and love just the process of creation. Coffee doesn’t give me much of a kick - for caffeine, give me soda any day. ---

Beer or Coffee? You say I have to pick 1, but do I have to drink 1. Never could stand either. i guess I’d go with beer since at least I can stand the smell of beer. Coffee is just plain nasty. ---

And I need to sober up because I didn’t even miss the word. I think you are evil for making me choose. I am heavily addicted to caffeine but I think I could survive without it. I choose beer because I’d go nuts without the excellent micro-brews around town. Someday, I’m going to brew my own beer. I swear it. ---

Since I depend on beer for my livelihood, it has to be beer. We should start an SDMB homebrewer’s group, I know there are quite few here. **Hung Mung** , I know some TN homebrewers that would be more than happy to help you get started, OTOH there is enough brewing knowledge here on the boards that we could give you some good advice if you decide to ‘brew your own’. ---

Beer. I drink coffee every day and beer most days, but if I’m going to be on a desert island I’ll want something to dull the existential agony. I find beer works admirably. ---

Both are an important part of my lifestyle, but I’d definitely have to choose beer. With beer, there is such a wide variety of styles, from Pilsner, to Stout, to Weissbier, to Barley Wine.
