Most people in the military are law abiding citizens who view violence in the service of the state as a job they do so that the rest of us won’t have to.

Of course, an intelligent sociopath could view such things however he preferred to, while manipulating the system to his own ends.

Sure, but that’s no different from civilian society. The only benefit that I can see with hiding within the military is that the hierarchical organization would be somewhat protective after you were a higher up.

He reminds me of a serial murderer in Spokane, Washington, Robert Yates, who was a 19-year military veteran and upright family man who raised five children. He killed at least 18 women.
