Not really a “Cold War” film, but “THE THIRD MAN” captures post war Europe (Austrai, yorn between East and West) perfectly. Another one (rarely seen)-“THE BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN”-about a crazed Texas millionaire, who tries to set of an anti communist coup in Latvia. ---

Would other Dopers consider [Gray Lady Down](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077629/) a Cold War flick? On the one hand, it’s based on Cold War sub patrol patterns and submariners. I like that the story avoids going _hot_, as so many of the other films involving subs that have been mentioned do. On the other hand, it’s just a thinly disguised, and Hollywooded-up, version of the [Squalus](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Squalus#Sinking_of_Squalus_and_recommissioning) disaster and rescue. ---

If you’re doing Harry Palmer stories, don’t forget **Billion Dollar Brain** , which has some great scenes with Oscar Homalka as Colonel Stok. Plus Karl Malden AND Ed Begley. A nice and fitting end to the trilogy. ---
