Get me the being in charge of weather for the Northwest. I gotta complaint. It’s fucking -9 degrees Fahrenheit here (-23 degrees Celsius) _without the wind_, and **-30** F (_ **-34** _ C) with the goat-felch-laden fetid breeze.
Once it hits -40, I won’t even have to convert between Fahrenheit and Celsius. The metric meshuggas and the standard shitheads will be freezing their weights and measures off equally.

This is the kind of cold that physically assaults you. Jack Frost with 'roid rage, people. Jack Frost ripping your nose off and shoving it up your ass sideways. Jack Frost taking a spiked bat and beating out the anvil chorus to _Ode To Joy_ on your cheeks. Jack Frost taking your ears and burning their nerve endings with a fire that gives only pain.

_And it’s snowing._ The sky is cloudy. The ground is white with the Cold Icy Stuff. Cloudy days usually aren’t that cold because the clouds mean a weather system that can (literally) hold water is overhead. That implies a certain warmth. Dry air is usually the coldest. If it clears up, things will get even colder.

I know it will get colder once night falls. When the sun goes down, our relatively thin atmosphere sucks at keeping heat in. I don’t even want to contemplate how _that_ will feel.

The snow and ice in addition to the cold means only one thing: The weather is now a killer, mortician, and gravedigger, all in one. The ice wounds you when you slip and crack an ankle or hit a patch of black ice and plow into a big drift 500 feet below the roadbed. The cold finishes the job as your body shuts off from the outside in. Then the cold preserves your corpse as the snow gives you a burial.

I know some morons will sacrafice fingers, ears, noses, and sometimes whole limbs to the Dread God Freeze. I know some people will even die. I hope it’s nobody I know.

Damned cold.

I feel your pain. Here in MN, it is a balmy 3 degrees (F). And there is _no snow!_. I don’t even want to leave the house. The coldest week of the winter just _has_ to be the first week of second semester, when I must spend a great deal of time walking outside. Ahhh, next week we are goin up to 20! Bring on the warm front!

I don’t feel so sorry for myself now, It’s only -20 degrees(F) with the windchill here. I’m going outside to bask in the balmy glory of the Michigan Winter.

I’m in the DC area, and it’s in the teens (F) here. I guess I shouldn’t complain too much.

But I’ve decided that I must be allergic to winter. I have been sick so many times this winter it’s ridiculous. This never happens to me in spring, summer, or fall. Allergies, maybe, but nothing like this.

And today, I’ve got a high fever and I’ve been throwing up. This is like the worst day ever.

I hate it here and miss California ☹

😛

Wuss.

Actually, I do have considerable compassion for those who normally don’t get temperatures like this. Many have no idea how to cope properly, and do sacrifice warmth for fashion/convenience.

It finally hit -30°C this morning, for the first time this winter. I swapped my sneakers for bunny boots, and the magic gloves for the big whoppin’ skidoo mitts. It only took me three times getting my ears frostbit to not care about what the hat does to my hairdo.

Now I don’t feel so bad about the -10 wind chill here.

(I should also point out that that figure is taken from an airport field inland, nowhere near that freakin’ frozen solid wind tunnel of a lake.)

I am so fucking SICK of living in the Upper Midwest!\*
\*not just the weather, mind you, but the weather stands out right now.

I invite you all over to my place, it got up to eighty degrees today. You’ll have to bring your own sunscreen and somebody’s gonna have to sleep on the couch, but you’ll be toasty through and through. 'Course, you’ll all go home before it hits 120 in August, but if I had any sense I’d go too.

Yeah, it’s the same here “down the hill” in Lewiston. In Buffalo, even in Niagara Falls only five miles away, the ground is covered. Here, well, there’s a little, but the wind blows it away. It’s just bizarre walking around with the temp hovering around zero F and hearing the crunch of, not snow, but frozen dirt.

I’m in the Boston area. It’s about 7 degrees(give or take) and windy as hell. I don’t want more specific details than that actually. I live on the water, and even in my house I can’t get warm.

And yes, I’d _love_ some cheese and crackers to go along with my whine.

Just to chime in with mine own tale of tragedy and woe:

Saskatoon, SK: -33°C (-27.4°F) this morning. My car sounded like an asthmatic hippo when I tried to start it.

Right now it’s a balmy -29°C. Tomorrow, with a SE wind at 30 km/h, it’s supposed to feel like -42°C.

I can’t wait for our two weeks of summer.

If it is any consolation the weather people are predicting 40+ degrees C for Melbourne Australia this weekend and no visible end to our bushfire crisis. Some nice wet snow (or rain) would be really handy about now.

Stupid sewer pipe froze up tonight. Ambient temp: -15. Windchill: -45. Christ.

Our tank has a level alarm, and it started honking at us at about 6:30 pm. Soooooo, on go the longhandles, the wooly pants, the windpants and the ski pants. (I have a lotta pants.) Silk undershirt, fleece turtleneck, pullover fleece anorak, gortex windbreaker and down filled trenchcoat. Leather gloves with the wool lining, fleece headband, hood up on the trenchcoat and the LaCrosse Sitkas. Good thing I only had to hold the light, because I could barely move. If I were the one that had to descend the ladder into the tank I would have gotten stuck.

Even with all those pants on, the lovely fat pads on my hips butt and thighs that give me such womanly curves still got cold. Fat is a good insulator, you know. My ass might be warm by midnight, but I doubt it. I had a snotcicle hanging from my nose, and I think I frostbit my cheeks.

I don’t know exactly what happened, but I was told to run a little more water than usual during the day. It involved removal of a section of pipe, three gallons of hot water and numerous trips by the DH down that hellhole.

My shit really does stink.
